can't connect to Internet without the cable with my laptop although it's WIFI

Hello,

I bought a laptop in the USA and currently live in Germany.
I've just moved in a new appartment and ordered Internet with Wifi.
The technician came and installed Internet... and it worked.
One week later I couldn't connect to Internet anymore. So I used the Internet cable connected to the Router and I could connect to Internet again (this is by the way how I'm currently connected to Internet)
But how can I get back to the Wifi, that is, have Internet without the cable?
Once the same problem happened. I just waited a few hours and it worked again. But now several days have passed and still can't connect with the Wifi. How come? If I get the cable off and click on the right corner on the icone for Internet, my network is not available, but other networks are available. What's more, my 2 roommates can connect to Internet with Wifi. How come? What should I do?

Thanks for your help!

What make of laptop is it? Some are renowned for having the wireless on/off switch very close to the Power button (Acer).

If you havent switched the wireless off then there is a possibility that the wireless card could have died.

I have a HP Pavillon. The button is on the right upper corner and it is on. A little blue/red light.
any ideas? Help!

I have Compaq Presario laptop my wifi card has the same problem because HP owns Compaq I just do a complete system restore and it works

I'm not sure I understand the problem...
Is there no other solution than restoring the complete system?
I just can't be bothered to... and I don't have so much time now. What's more, I did it a few months ago I think.
Please, is there a solution?
Can someone help me?

THANKS!

Well you made a mistake and thy was buyin an up lol you prob payed way too much for it and ho is horrible and they come with so much useless hp crap that take forever to gr rid of and never seems to go away completely and it will prob break soon and hp support is garbage last timebi dealt with then I told the lady to take her useless support and shove it up their ass lol even my buddy who us pretty high up in hp won't even use one of the damn things

Are you able to see the SSID of the router but not connect or can you not see the router at all? Maybe you can connect to the router but don't have internet access? We really need more info than "...couldn't connect to the internet anymore."

WTF does this say? Is that even english?

Chances are good that your WIFI is operating in a channel that your card isn't compatible with. The FCC limits the frequency range for wireless devices and it could be a channel that US equipment isn't compatible. You may be able to find a foreign driver for the card that allows you to use it, or simply change the channel in your router to 1-10.

I don't know what the SSID of the router is.

I'll try to be more clear... well, actually I don't even understand where the problem is. As I said, Internet worked well right from the start. And then all of a sudden I lost the connection. I couldn't see anymore the name of my network in the window that opens when you click on the right corner of the laptop screen. And I didn't do nothing particular. Some hours later, it started working again, but I didn't do nothing special. Now it's been days and I can't connect to Internet with the Wifi system. I still have to use a cable. When I get the Internet cable off and go to the right corner at the bottom to see if the name of my wifi-connection appears anywhere, I see nothing. I don't get it since my roommates don't have any problem to go to the Internet with the Wifi.

Please help me. If you have skype, I'd be delighted to speak to you. Maybe it'd be easier this way.

PLEASE HELP!
THANKS!

Im not sure to understand everything you said.
A foreign driver for the card? Sorry... what do you mind? What would I be supposed to buy?
Change the chanell? in my routter to 1-10? I don't know what it means. Sorry.

But... If I succeeded in surfing before... Why couldn't I connect all of a sudden? I don't get it.

You answered the questions I was asking without realizing it. The SSID of the router is the name it broadcasts that you say you no longer see in the window at the bottom. The fact that your roommates can use the WiFi to connect tells us that the router appears to be working. Have you tried taking the laptop somewhere and tried connecting to a different router?

If you look in Device Manager does the Network Adapter listed for your wifi card show that it is working properly or does it show an icon with a yellow ! next to it?

Is it possible that your roommates could be pulling a joke on you by changing the router's configuration to not broadcast the SSID?

It could be that the WiFi card in your laptop failed and needs to be replaced. Is the laptop new and possibly still under warranty?

I tried to connect from different places in the house, but it doesn't make any difference.
There are indeed some yellow icones in device manager:
In the part "Network adapters":
- The adapter
- Isatap
- Microsoft adapter

I tried to do "Update driver system". They say that "the best software driver for your device is already installed"
In properties they show the following:
"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31). Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."
I tried the button "check for solutions" and they say "could not load driver software"

What I am supposed to do? I don't get it.

I can't bring the computer back. The warranty isn't valid anymore.
I'm sure there is a solution... Can someone help me please?

Now I'm connected to Internet without cable (wifi) and I didn't do anything special... I dodn't get it!
The problems still appear in Device Manager.
Could someone tell me how to fix this problem?
At some point I'll have the same problem.
What am I supposed to?
