So, its been a long time since we've played console games, but just bought a new place and got everything setup and the conversation came up for what console we should have for when we have a group over.

So hear is my thinking.

I'm familiar with XBOX360, and really I just want to get Forza4 and maybe GTA4

but I'm just looking for some opinions on which console makes more sense.

PS3 or XBOX360.

We already have a blu-ray player so that's not a plus for getting a PS3. I'm not partial to either system so give me your thoughts.

Depends really, i prefer xbox over ps3 but that due to controller and exclusives.

Only reason i moved on to pc gaming was due to the price of live, so if your not going to us elive anyway id get a 360

If the price is a bit much for live get a ps3

Hope this thread isn't going to start any PS3 vs Xbox wars. :D

But i say get a PS3,Because it has built in Blu Ray player & Wi-FI...and free online so no additional costs really.

Both are good systems though,Will be interesting to see what the next gen of consoles will be like. :)

Thanks for the input..

I think it boils down to wanting to be able to play a racing game or shooting game when a group of friends are chillin' on a weeknight.

If you're going to use it as a general media player I would recommend the PS3. You can get the low end one and upgrade the HDD yourself, they'll take a normal 2.5" SATA HDD. Also, I haven't tried streaming on the PS3, but it's kinda unreliable on the XBox.

The only major draw of PS3 over the 360 is the blu-ray player and if that's not a big deal for you go with the 360. More games, better online service, bigger community, more downloads and extras, more services, ect.

Some of the PS3 exclusive titles are great, but they're not worth getting the PS3 over the 360 imo unless you're not playing that many games, but from the sound of it you're looking at some of the bigger titles that both consoles have.

The only thing? How about free online service.
Backwards compatibility all the way to the ps1, so you can still some of the greatest games made. Xbox has fable and halo.
It's a much better media center, streaming from media servers works great.
And I don't know what services xbox offers that ps3 doesn't.

When you get down to it, the only thing xbox DOES have that ps3 doesn't is some exclusive titles.

You get what you pay for.

Odds are if you still have ps1 and 2 games laying around you still have the consoles. If you don't you might as well spend $20 and get em.

I already touched on the media, the OP doesn't care about it so it's not a factor for him here.

Zune, Netflix without the activation disk, system linking, DLC content is always sooner if not exclusive as far as consoles go ect

That's for sony picture records, not the PSN. Yeah, they were hacked but they've locked down the security in that situation.

Why have 3 different consoles for games that could all be played on one???

Zune.....is a joke. Netflix on PS3 doesn't need the activation disk. System linking according to this, is just creating a lan party, which you can do on ps3.....and DLC for exclusive games will always be exclusive...I don't quite understand that.

I don't want to start a flame war or anything, and I don't have anything against xbox, but really, the biggest reason it's more popular is because it came out first.

Edit: And I just noticed this:

Note You cannot mix wireless and wired connections in the same system link play configuration.

Which means that if you want to do wireless, anyone with an older xbox has to buy the wireless adapter, else they have to wire all of the systems.

i just want to remind people that the new 360 has built in wifi and i think i heard that the newer ps3's aren't backwards compatible. And what are you talking about a netflix activation disk, i think you were saying it to the 360, and then why can i do the trial without a disk or anything? my vote obviously goes to the 360 cuz i got it and love it.

I said older 360's for a reason, which a lot of people own. You can get a ps3 either with or without bc.

He said the 360 doesn't need the disk, so I said the ps3 doesn't, please read before you post.

I am gunna have to say 360, owning both the ps3 doesnt compete with my 360, yes psn is free but xbox live is so much better, more reliable, doesnt go down for months, larger community. Not to mention you can have private chats on 360 via mic while in game unlike the ps3.

I havent played ps3 since sony went down then claimed everything but themselves as the problem, when it was released they had outdated security. And i woke up to a 50 dollar charge on my card that was tied to my psn account.

I havent really had problems streaming to the 360 either, To me the controller is by far more comfortable and has a better layout.

I'd say for you the choice is pretty clear.
Forza is a 360 exclusive.
You already have blu-ray.

There's really no benefit for you to get the ps3 other than free online which it doesn't sound like is a very high priority for you.

For the record, the new PS3 models do not have PS2 backwards compatibility. (They might have PS1 though, not sure)
