Xbox 360 Dumb Parent Question

So I know a little about computers and play some online things myself. My kids have been hitting me up for an Xbox360 to start doing some online play. They are 10 and 11 years old.

Not knowing much about 360's... what should I get them?

I can get a bundle with the kinect package reasonable through my work. Only a 4gig hdd though. Ive noticed I can purchase larger hdd online though. Good Idea or bad?

How do you get the games? Is there a good place to download them?

I don't have a 360 atm, but I do know that if they get online mute other players. That way you wont have to wonder where they learned their new favorite phrases.
 
you buy the games at like gamestop or ebgames, or walmart if you must. and for the kinect, atm there is nothing good for it but there are i think 3/4 great games coming, a starwars one, a fable one, and some others. also you can't add a herddrive to the newer slim black ones, but you can buy one of the giant usb backup drives and use it with it, i think that should work but can't guarentee. also don't download games on the console marketplace, almost all of them can be bought new or used for 10 or more less than on the console with points.

and i must agree, use the parental settings to mute others as 1, they'll learn more language than you know in 1 or 2 days :P and also i really just get annoyed by kids cuz they try to cuss thinking it makes them cool and the mics make their voices higher than they already are and it's so annnoying, then they also think their the best gamers ever and all and won't shut up.

Maybe just me, but that is a biased answer lol. You have no idea what type of kids they are, what their interested in. Maybe the games out already are perfect for them.

Anyway, back on topic. If I were you i would just start out basic to begin with. Just get the regular bundle package (console (250GB), games, a controller (buy extra controller). Average cost of bundle is $250CND (includes extra controller). This way you can see how they enjoy the xbox and how they act (attitude wise). If the choice comes that you made a mistake in buying it, you can still resell for about $150CND, not losing all money. If they enjoy it, buy the Kinect later date.

You said you can get the Kinect bundle pack through work (only with a 4GB hard drive), I would compare what you get with that bundle vs store bundle. How much are you saving, and is it worth it?

I agree with the comments "regulate" your kids. Once kids get online (halo to be exact) they live a different life that a kid should not live. If you regulate this (my sister does this with my nephews) you shouldn't have a problem with language/attitude.
 
dan't forget call of duty, there are way more "intense" coments on there, when i play halo it seems more calm and relaxed to me so never really seen that stuff, but don't play with a mic as only play at friend's house so idk. really they don't even need a mic, i'd say just block voices and keep the mic away from them
 
11 and 10 year olds shouldn't be playing games rated 15+ or so. Just look at the rating on the cover. Read a review of the game and maybe look at some gameplay on youtube. Until they are old enough they shouldn't be playing games like that.

If you want to get the 360, keep in mind that you'll have to pay for Xbox Gold accounts if your kids want to play online. On Play Station 3 it's free.

also, you can upgrade to any 2.5" SATA drive that will install in the Xbox bracket. The Xbox OS is not on the HDD (can start with HDD removed, just cant save games), so you will not have an issue.

i was just getting ready to say something along those lines.

But about the 360 xbox live play, when i set my little cousin up with it a few months ago i dont remember all the choices i had but i could choose whether or not he could receive friend request and all that kinda stuff.

What I can get is a 4gb kinect package with the adventure game and 2 controllers. It has the mounting bracket for the bar. $289.00 for it (New)

I dont want that small of a hard drive, but if I can change it out, that would be good.



As far as games, I play WoW.. they like it... They have played Halo, and like racing games as well.

Thanks for the heads up on the parental controls.. I will make sure they are regulated properly.
 
I would check it to see if it is onboard memory or not. As I dont think there are any 4GB SATA drives around. But either way it is a simple install for a bigger one.
 
i had heard differently from many friends for the hdd, but thought it sounded wrong, but also other than an extra controller and 10 bucks 300 is what it normally costs for the system, kinect, and adventures with one controller

This is true, but better than the normal deal for me. Every little bit helps. I just dont want to get stuck and not be able to swap hard drives.
