im willing to spend around $1500-$1600 for either on either a pc or laptop
but i move around alot, from my mums to my dad every weekend so thats why i would prefer a laptop but the desktop would be way more powerful

My two choices
Alienware M14x
- intel core i7 2760QM 2.4Ghz (turbo - 3.5Ghz)
- 6gb DDR3 @ 1600Mhz ram
- 3GB DDR3 Nvidia GeForce Gt 555M

Desktop
- Intel core i7-960 (3.2ghz, turbo 4.8ghz)
-12gb DDR3 1333MHz ram
- 2GB Asus HD6970

would the alienware still compare to the desptop?

A case made for moving around. If you want power and performance then a desktop will always be better, and if you get a desktop build it yourself for much cheaper. If you need portability for web surfing a cheap notebook would be more than sufficient.

recently found this, and it has a handle, is actually my new dream case :D

well, when i say i move around alot, it also involves me taking my current laptop to school and then to my fathers, to school then to my mums. but im also a hardcore gamer and i want a good experience ,

How important is the portability VS. gaming potential/ability?

well considering i move around a lot, and i like to game. so id like to always have the laptop with me. but i just don't know!

i assume the m14x could handle the majority of games on high settings, right?

It will, but you should look around for a different brand with similar specs if you can and save some money.

It is possible to get a good laptop for gaming, you just have to pay too much for it.

My laptop is:

DELL 17" XPS
Processor: Intel i7 2720QM
RAM: 16GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M
Hard Drive: 2x 500GB
OS: Windows 7 Premium

Also has a tuner card, bluetooth/wireless card and all that crap. It's a 3D Monitor with NVIDIA 3D glasses.

Although it is not the best by any means, i figured i did ok seeing as it only cost me $1800. Little bit over priced, but i figured i could almost do anything my desktop can.

IF you had a desktop rather than laptop, would you have to take the monitor/keyboard/mouse to/from school/parents too?

If the answer to that is yes, I think I know which way I would go.
