Buying SSD and Setup

Typically, when i format a hard drive, i pop in the windows installation disk, installation is complete, install graphic card driver and done. But with SSD, i saw a sticky giving a long list of stuff to do, is all of that necessary? Will a SSD work by performing my method mentioned above?

I am new to SSD. I was looking at drives and after doing research, i found that OCZ is a waste of money due to the problems it creates, so I'm looking for something that wont be giving me issues. I had the crucial m4 64 Gb in mind or the Kingston 64 Gb models (mentioned below).

Also, what is the difference between the 3 Kingston drives and which one would be the best buy. Only reason i am considering Kingston is because it seems to be realiable and offers a nice rebate, making the SSDs around $75

SSD's should be ran in ahci mode if possible to gain performance. In the 3 drives you linked, 1 is an external and 2 are internal. If your motherboard supports SATA 3 then I would recommend getting that instead of SATA 2. And the only difference between the 2 internal drives is one has hardware included with it.

And yes, to get the best performance from the drive, you should follow all those instructions in that thread.

Sorry to jump in here.. but what forum thread are you referring to? I recently purchased the crucial drive but for 256 GB (solid drive)

I want to make sure I did not set the drive up wrong.. so thats why I am interested in the thread

My Motherboard doesn't support AHCI unfortunately :( , but you be damn sure that my new one will ;).

I have the OCZ Agility 120GB, without tweaking (Switching modes, running SATA III ect) i noticed a HUGE difference in performance.

**i purchased this drive because it was on sale and i wanted to see what the hype was all about. SSD's are awesome**
