Hi, I would like to purchase a new computer I didn't really want to spend more then 900$

I want to purchase it at Canada Computers | Computers, Computer Parts, Laptops, Hard Drives, PC Hardware & Accessories Sales as theres one close by my house

Last time I went there and without a graphics card it was going to be 650$ including the 50$ charge they charge for building the computer, I told them I wanted a computer that would be upgradable...

but anyway.. I have a couple questions first off when I went there I found a 700W, for 49$ but I guess it wasn't a name brand.. he told me that I should definetly purchase the more expensive one which was 700W as well.. for 70$, is this true?

2nd question is well someone please help me decide what parts I should buy from the link above? I wanted a computer that will have a easy time playing most games and will be easilly upgradable in the future.

thanks so much!

the PSU question, yes, but depending on the name.

As for the parts, what are you going to be doing with it? As that will determine what parts to use.

I want it mainly to be a gaming computer and not to overheat xD, is there any name brands I should watch out for? ;o

thanks to you both! about the harddrive.. there more expensive then I thought xD, should I really get two 500gbs or 1TB? will it be that much of a difference? I think I know why you said 2 500GB drives, thats because one will be for games one for other stuff? which will cause games to run faster?

lol sorry about all the question marks :D thanks again :)

can someone please answer the above question?

what johnny suggested is that you run 2 500 GB in RAID0. That would end up being faster than a 1TB, but the OS (windows 7) would see a 1TB drive. It is just a matter of being faster, and potentially cheaper than a 1TB, but the same size.

oh, thanks wolfe, it doesn't seem I can get a 500GB for less then 100$, at this place anyway, I dont really understand what raid0 is but Ill try to look it up

that is why i mentioned it, they have some normally priced 500gb's that are good in their store, and as he said, when they are in raid 0 the os sees them as 1, but since it is running off 2 drives i think they run about 1.5x as fast as a single drive

ahh, I really don't know much about hard drives, can you tell me what one that is 500gb that you would recommend?

I see 16mb cache and 32mb cache.. ahh j ust confused.

Raid 0 is basically a hardware RAID system that splits the data in half and sends one half to each hard drive. This speeds up data write and read, but at the risk of data loss (you loose all data if 1 drive fails). Safer bet in RAID is RAID 5, (requires 3 drives IIRC), which is a cross of RAID 1 and 0 (Faster than 1 drive, and redundant).

ah, o_O so.. if I did go raid 5, if one drive failed I don't lose my data?.. is raid 5 faster then raid 0?

could you please recommend me some drives for raid 0 and raid 5 please! thanks..

I'm guessing the hard drives need to be the same or similar?

RAID 0 and 5 are the same speed. There is only like a .1% difference in speed.

In RAID 5 if one drive fails, you just loose the data on that drive, and the others pick up the slack (so in theory you loose no data.)

RAID requires that the drives be the same size and RPM to work.

I would just say pick 2 (RAID 0) or 3 (RAID 5) drives of the same modle from westerndigital or Samsung and youll be set.

With the price of hdd's what they are, just get a SSD and put the os and most used programs on that, and send your saved data to a hdd.
