Domain Name _Reservation

Looking for input,
I am thinking about reserving a domain name for a dream I have, can some one tell me what is involved , like is it a yearly fee? and do I have to have a server provider and what would that service provider actually do if I am not ready for a website? I just really want to reserve the domains..

Well, depends on who you get it through. You can buy just a domain, or sign up for webhosting, and some companies offer both. I personally buy domains(namesilo.com) from one site, and get my hosting done by another. (kuzhost.com)

However, if you just want to register the domain and not setup a site, you can certainly do that. Just buy the domain and let it sit. (aka it's known as "parking the domain")

I appreciate the reply..so by parking the domain I would not need a host , right... and could I park indefinitely as long as I paid?
