Buying a new desktop 900$ budget help plz

I would serverly suggest against anything ACER. Bad quality, and chances are with a 5750, the PSU will blow in a matter of weeks.

ok finally off hold and all of them are out of stock.. but I have another question you wanted me to buy a OS, but I have windows 7/XP cd already but I heard about linux before and I never tried it would XP/ Linux be a problem installed on this computer?

you can install both at the same time, but the disk you already have, what kind is it, you have to have either a retail or an oem disk to be able to install windows to a blank hdd.

oh... well I think I will just go with linux I can download from them to go on a blank HDD right?

yes.

I would download from Ubuntu (I personally hate them) and install to a blank HDD. Its the best Linux for people new to Linux.

May I ask why you hate them? :P TBH never tried it always thought it would be interesting though. I'm assuming it works just as well as windows 7 // or possibly better? going to look it up. thanks again

I hate them because they have been diluting the Linux ideal since 2006. They hide everything behind nice little wizards much the way that windows does. Many of the other Linux distros actually use the terminal the way that linux is supposed to be.

On top of this, they have been getting worse in usefulness over the last distros. The 11.10 is nearly unusable on my laptop (M300 athlon 2, 4GB, 640 GB, HD4250) due to feezing and nonresponsefulness.

no. HP is not worth it at all. Quality suffers considerably on that brand. Plus you need better than a 6770 for gaming.
plus, for its MSRP of 1400, you could build a much better system. A kickass system at the 1000 normal price, and a decent system at the 700 they are asking at the moment.

ok thanks wolfe, I looked up distros and it brought up software distribution within Linux.. so im guessing you mean there updates have been causing you alot of issues?..

Are you sure it won't do the same for me? :P

Would Windows 7 be the better option?

and how do I tell if my computers going to be 64 bit or 32 bit

distro is the flavor so to speak. Some common distros are Mint, Ubuntu, PClinuxOS, Fedora and the like. The distribution is the OS, like windows vista is a different disrto than xp or 7.

ohhh.. I had a question he told me that I need windows 7 if its going to be a gaming computer... BS? I have a copy of windows 7 but i wanted to try ubuntu/linux should I just install windows 7 to it?

You did good.
Nothing wrong with anything.
If you have 7, I suggest starting with that. You can always add Linux for dual boot if you want.

Thanks alot Ben for the reply :), still though, I don't really want to pay for windows 7.. was going to download a copy. . . and buy a cd key.. since its alot cheaper that way.

I was hoping I could just as easilly download ubuntu install it to my harddrive then install all the drivers and have no problems at all.. having a hard time finding a win 7 to dl but I havn't looked much yet, wondering if I should just let them install windows 7, but would rather not spend that 100$ ;/

Well, I canceled the purchase of windows 7 so now its at a grand total of $1038

downloaded ubuntu, going to try it soon :)
