What do you guys think this asus z68 deluxe gen 3, sound quality, overclocking, performance, overall build? It has usb and pci 3.0 and a pretty good phase design i think. Alot of pci slots, built in blutooth, I like everything about it except the color lol! And I will be using ivy bridge.

Ok I know this is kinda a stupid question, but all I have ever owned is laptops which all need network cards. So can I just plug in a cat 7 network cable into the board like this one,

or do I need a wireless card?

Would love to hear what yall think about this board, afterall its arguably the most important part of the computer.

thanks!

well if you're fine with what your on now you could wait untill ivy bridge is out and get one of the new chipsets coming out with it. otherwise that is a great board and will serve you well, and a wireless adapter if your modem isn't close, otherwise just a plain old ethernet cord

I thought about doing that but this laptop is long overdue for an update. From what I have researched though the new boards are not really bringing any game changers to the table, but again they are months out so who knows.

well you can't change a laptop motherboard. because of the size to be able to get all the other parts in they use specific specially designed mobos that can't be changed unless there is a similar model or something, but no desktop mobo works in any lappy.

that confused me, sry.

and do you want us to check over the rest of your build, make sure they are the best brands and parts for the money?

Sure, heres what I am looking at so far.

Case: cm haf x
PSU: 1200watt corsair gold plus reasopn for such a big psu is I plan to run multiple gpus, and i just want alot of headroom
Motherboard: asus z68 deluxe gen 3
CPU: 2500k, will upgrade to ivy 3700k once it comes out
Cpu heatsink: noctua d14
GPU: Radeon 6970
memory: 16gigs gskill 1600mhz
SSD: 120g ocz vertex
HD 1 tb wd 7,200 rpm
optical: asus blue ray burner

looks good, only things are that you might want 1200 for 4 6970's, but the more headroom you have the less efficient the psu is, but idk how much it changes, if you can spend the extra, a 3gb gtx580 is the fastest single gpu card out there, and it also has physx which makes some games look a lot better, although many of them put it onto the cpu so everybody gets better graphics. and i'd recomend bestbuy for hdd's, maybe fry's too, they haven't jacked their prices yet due to flooding in thialand meaning a smaller supply of hdd's, and also unless those are caviar blacks then the samsung f3 is better, and also 2 smaller drives in raid0 are almost 1.5x as fast as one biger drive. and lastly, what is this being used for cuz very few things use over 4-8gb's of ram

first off that was a very helpful post, thank you.

Effeciency is not a concern lol and I choose radeon because I plan on running 3 monitors. I might just hold off on the gpu till radeons 7000 series come out though.

they were caviar blacks and I will look at besbuy, yeah 200$ for 1 tb is ridiculous. And I plan on getting another of the same 120g ssd and 1tb hd once I use the first ones, would that work?

I have that much ram because I am about to start heavily using autocad, and why not its only 50$.

where is 16gb's of 1600 for 50, but i think autocad does use a lot. and for the hdd's, you have to have both at the start to use raid 0 for the faster performance, raid 0 basically splits every bit of info writtin into 512kb packs and sends one to the first hdd and the second to te other, that way since it is reading from the 2 disks it can read and write a lot faster. but obviously that has to be done at the beginning or it won't work sine on drive will have a ton of extra data, idk if you can once there is extra info on 1

my fault, its the extra 8 gigs for 50$ off newegg. ohh ok, so once i put stuff on the hd's id have to erase everytrhing to do raid 0
