Getting back windows XP

Basically, i used DBAN on my computer to delete everything because the hard drive was full of viruses. I don't have the recovery disks that come with the computer but i was wondering if there was something along those lines that i can get hold of to reinstall XP and use my existing product key without having to but a new OS like windows 7

If you have an actual windows XP install cd then use the cd to reinstall windows. The cd can delete all partitions and reset up the drive to install windows.

However, what makes you think you have to reinstall windows because you have a few viruses/malware on your system. I can help you remove them. Would you like to try?

If the HDD has been wiped using DBAN it's a little late to try virus removal.

You could contact the system builder to see if they have recovery disks available. Many times they have them for a reasonable cost.

I guess I read his post wrong. Had to reread it again.

the reason for fully wiping it was because it was an old family computer and it was full of rubbish and was loaded with viruses so i though the best thing to do would be to wipe it as i dont have the XP cd and system restore wouldn't run. I suppose i will just have to get a new OS because im planning on upgrading parts to make it a low level gaming computer anyway.

Can't you borrow the disk from someone to install XP and then activate it using your key?
It's worth a try before spending money on new OS.

For your key to work you will probably need a OEM System Builder Install Disk, of the same version you had, Pro or Home.

if you have a windows xp installer disk than you can just install windows and it shouldn't ask for a cd key if you have pevoiusly intalled windows xp.

Of course it does ask for a CD key.Where do you think XP stores entered CD key information? On the hard disk drive of course lol.And once you decide to reinstall Windows, you format the entire HDD and all the information is lost including the entered CD key information so it's logical it will ask for a CD key on every Windows installation. In most cases even when performing just XP repair process, during the repair process you are again asked for a CD (product) key.

Unless if you make your own custom XP installation disk or USB stick in which you have already wrote the product key infomation and made it that way that it never asks for a product key during the installation.

Cheers!
By the way my PF usage is huge right now...GOD DAMMIT :D
