Windows 7 # of Processes

I have a dell laptop running windows 7,

what would be an average # of processes running?

Looking at mine I have the following

Processes 75
also shows Physical memory 48%

just wondering if these numbers are considered normal, low, or high

thanks

Lets find out what processes are running.

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Vista and 7 users will need to right click on the icon and click on "run as". If the run as option doesn't appear then press and hold the shift key while right clicking on hijackthis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

When the hijackthis log appears in a notepad file, click on the edit menu, click select all, then click on the edit menu again and click on copy. Come back to your reply and right click on your mouse and click on paste.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces

There are no rules wether is that high or not. That depends completely on you and the way you use the computer and number of things you are running in the foreground and in the background.I for example 99% of the time always have 63 processes running all at the same time. It's nothing bad lol I simply need them to run all the time for what I do.

If you have 75 running processes,it does not mean it is a virus immediately lol.Just take a good look at what things are running. Those you don't need, simply turn them off and make sure you make them to not start automatically with Windows unless if you need them all the time.

Like I said...there are no rules wether a specified amount of running processes is LOW or HIGH.Some computers have 20,some 30,some 60,some more than 100 and so on.It all depends on what the computer is being used for...

Cheers!

Thanks for the replies

It is a Dell Latitude e650

Windows 7 Pro
32-Bit
4GB ram
Intel i5-2520M , 2.50GHz

I will have to do the hijackthis stuff later in the week, i will post once I do.

thanks again
