Core unlocking problems!!

While powering on my desktop I activated the core unlocking feature of my Mobo (an ASUS M5A88-V EVO sporting an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition processor). My tower restarted (first time unlocking, should it do this?) and booted up like it should, with one problem, my monitor showed no signs of the tower being turned on. It sat there with a black screen and wouldn't work. Any solutions??? Other specs will be given upon request.

the phenom II x6 is the highest core count supported. It cant be unlocked. You may have damaged the processor with the attempt. Or you may have screwed the BIOS.

Remove the CMOS battery and unplug the tower while pushing the power switch a couple of times. Wait 5 minutes and reinstall the battery and power. This will reset the BIOS, and if it doesnt fix it, it drops bios screwups from the list of possible problems.

only tiple cores, some dual cores, and the 960t quad unlock more cores.

i would say it's time to pull the cmos and reset it. look for the small round battery on the mobo, unplug the power and all, pull out the battery, hit the power button a few times just to use up any energy in the wiring and all, then wait 5-10 mins and put everything back, then put all your settings back into the bios minus the unlocker and you're done.

ok there are several small battery-like pieces on the mobo...any specific location i should be looking?

The big silver round battery, which is above the blue IDE port on the right side of the board.

take the gpu out then there should be a little thingy on one side you stick a screw driver or knife or something between.

glad it worked.

if you want to know why it worked, its simple. when you turned on the unlocker, it made a change in the bios code telling the CPU to use more cores. That change was saved to the BIOS. Because the CPU could not do what the BIOS was telling it to do, it caused a POST error. Pulling the CMOS battery caused a hard reset, causing the factory standard BIOS to be used. Your CPU could function under that BIOS, so your computer started working again.

like we said before, now you have to put back in all settings you had, any overclock should be gone and all that good stuff.
