Laptop battery and shutdown questions

Hello i have a laptop with a lithium-ion battery and would like to know the proper care to make the battery itself last long so i wont need a replacement for a while.When should i take the laptop off the charger? Is it alright if its constantly on the charger? Another thing i would also like to know is when should i shutdown my laptop or put it in hibernate mode? I currently shut down every night before i go to bed and normally take the charger out but sometimes i leave it in if its not charged a lot. Is this alright? Should i put it in hibernate mode or just let it go to sleep? I know this is a lot but anyone with knowledge of these things please help me, thanks.:D

I'll make several points:

-General care is to run the laptop battery down to at least 15% at least once every two weeks, then charge it up again.
-If you'll be on the charger and stationary a lot of the time, remove the battery. Prolonged constant use on the charger without depleting the battery will wear down the battery life.
-Shutdown and hibernate make no difference as they do the same thing. Hibernating makes a snapshot of the OS running and shuts down. Standby however keeps power actively running, though very minimal. I usually keep my laptop sleeping a lot of the time, but if I don't use it for several hours, the power settings are set to have it hibernate.
 
besides like said. Never run down completely like to 0 volts.
Leaving plugged in can boil a battery. Next time i buy a charger or battery and if
ever for a laptop it will have a smart charger and smart battery. I have tools that have
this feature and work great. They will shut down if low and charger will stop charging automatic. Would suspect they are available for a laptop by now. work well.

Forgot to mention high voltage batteries like 9 or 12 volts for laptop. That will also be next for the next laptop. I have 3v and 6v for now.
