Steam's giveaway deal is a ripoff

I mean seriously! They put games on sale for 75% off, BUT, by visiting the page for that game, you have a chance to win it for free.

The thing is, they don't contact if you've won until after the sale is over, so if you didn't win, you are also out an awesome deal!

For the thousands of people who probably visit the game's page, and they probably do cuz they think "Oh maybe I'll win the game," Its better to just pay the 75% off price then regret it later.

I'm still trying to get over the fact that I didn't get an Xbox 360 Kinnect bundle for $150 on black friday! oh well at least I got a wii for my sister for christmas ;)

You are saying that buying maybe 10 games in a month at an average price of $5 per game is a rip off, just because you may win?

Why not buy the game when it is cheap and change your wishlist? There are a good 20-30 games I want, I can't afford to buy them all even at the prices on sale and that is even if they come up, so buying some of them, and so far spending ~£30 and getting 8 games, and maybe getting others, some of which I can guarantee won't come on sale, is hardly a ripoff.

If you buy a game then win it, give it away, it is nearly Yule after all, do something good for someone rather than being sore because you got a good discount...

I'm not saying buying anything is a ripoff. The point of a giveaway is for people to enter for a chance to win something. Well, it doesn't do much good to put the giveaway item on sale and then take it off again before you know who the winner is.

It's not ruined my day or anything, it's just not a very good system.

Um maybe I read the promotion wrong... But where did it say you win the game they are selling? Everything I saw said that you might win your wishlist for visiting the page... None of those games are on my wishlist lol.

You're right but normally when you're buying a game it's probably going to be on your wishlist anyway. There's the ever so small chance that you're going to purchase a game then get it for free also.

well you just got nine free games for yourself and one to give to a friend in that case, this is just a silly argument since why complain about not getting a tenth free game when you just got 9 free games (if you were to win)

Most of the games on my wishlist top 10 have only just come out - LA Noire, War of the North, CoD, even if I won just them after buying the others, I would be happy with just over £100 worth of free games
