How much is my desktop worth?

I built this a few years ago but now I'm thinking about selling it and building a cheap HTPC since that's all I use it for anyway...my buddy already told me he's interested in buying it because his laptop overheats when he games on it, so what would be a good asking price?

Specs:
22" Acer monitor (Standard res 1680x1050)
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.5Ghz stock, overclocked to ~3.5Ghz)
Asus P5Q SE Mobo
8GB Corsair DDR2 800 Ram (4x2GB)
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 512MB
Antec 420W PSU
DVD Burner
Cooler Master CM690 Full Case
Silent Knight CPU cooler
Several 120mm Blue LED fans
Harddrives and keyboard/mouse are nothing special.

Not that much. I would say about $300-500.

I think a fair price for the monitor is probably around $60-100. A quick search on ebay (for ended sales) shows used 22 inch Acers going for about that. The sold monitors range from $50 - $150. Of course if it's an older model, make sure to consider this and give him a fair price.

DO you remember how much it cost you to build the computer? I'd say if it's 4 years old, take about half off what you paid. (just an estimate).

It was built in late 2008 so it's about 3 years old and it cost me about $600 to build.

Yeah, "half of what you paid" falls at the low-end of zPixel's suggestion: $500-$300. Was the $600 including the monitor? If not, you can probably go closer to the high end.

Also, I don't know how close a friend this is, but basic haggling suggests you should start a little higher than you want, that way you have wiggle room for negotiation. For instance, you could start at $500 for the whole package, and if he talks you down to $400, you're still good.

Nope, definitely forgot the monitor in my estimate. I believe I got that on black friday last year for about $100 so $700 total now. I think $400 is probably the lowest I would take, any less and I might as well just keep using the desktop as my HTPC because I would be sacrificing a lot of power and functionality for a smaller form factor and like $100, haha.

Yeah, that makes sense. Well, you could start the price closer to $550 and see how he reacts. Maybe then with haggling it'll hit $500-$475
