I have an older hp and I'm pretty sure it just needs a power supply. Its only about 35 bucks. I'm just wondering if its worth fixing and maybe adding some memory to? I mainly need a computer that can run Adobe Illustrator. My current one freezes all the time. I don't really know that much about computers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is outdated, but can max out at 4 gb of ram although it is regular ddr and not ddr2. It may.be in your best interest to build a new machine if you know how or buy a prebuilt.

I don't know enough to build one. I know a guy who said he'd build me one for about 350. I was just trying to save some money. That HP was always a really good computer, but I never tried running illustrator on it.

Yeah, you would not want to spend anymore money on this. Instead, while the time being, I would completely reinstall windows and everything else. Probably has acquired a lot of clutter over the years and a reinstall would speed things up.

I don't know enough to build one.
I call bull. If you are literate, know how to watch a video or read the guides located all over the net, and know how to operate a screw driver, then you know how to build a computer.

It will be cheaper to upgrade your current system, but a new one will be cheap enough, and will definitely perform better.

I'm sure I could build one myself if I tried. I was just looking to save money. Wouldn't I be better off just having the guy I know build one for me? He said he could do a decent one for 350.

$350 might be a stretch, but you can definitely build a mini-ITX system for that. These kinds of systems are small and portable but more suited to media playing than anything else. Regardless, here's a low budget system that is not one of those:

Total cost: $440.93 before shipping/rebates

It's $90 over budget but everything is able to be upgraded. GPU, RAM, GPU, HDD, everything.
