unlocking cores, without UCC possible?

ok so i need a new CPU, and was thinking of getting a Athlon 2 x2 260 next month, cus its a nice dual core cpu. but i can only find ASrock motherboards that have UCC. but would it be possible to unlock cores without ASRocks UCC?

if its possible in anyway please answer, if not possible then too bad ill just save up for a tri or quad core then.
 
There is no cores to unlock. The only Athlons II that will, have 512kb. of L2 each core. That one is a true Dual core. Plus most AMD boards that have from the 750 series southbridge and up have ACC even if its not listed.

ah well i dont think i can unlock any cores with my Crosshair 2 can i then :p
 
No, no Nvidia chipset boards can unlock cpu cores.

Your best bet for an unlock is to get a Phenom II 565 or other Phenom II dual core. If it doesn't unlock to a quad most atleast unlock to a triple core. IMO, triple core Phenom II is superior to quad core Athlon in most tasks including gaming.

ok, well ive read there is NVCC for nvidia chipsets, but im just gonna get a phenom2 x4
 
Good choice, I suggest the 960t because it may unlock to an X6 and it has a thuban memory controller which is much better than a 955/965 etc.

yeah but i am using a Crosshair 2 formula, so i wont be able to unlock to x6. but i was thinking of a 960T anyway, its cheaper than a 955 and unlockable in future builds
 
Thats what I meant, for future. But it still runs cooler than a 955/965 and has the better memory controller.
 
A 940 is not an AM3 processor, so although it will work on your current board should you upgrade later you will be SOL.
