$400 PC for Minecraft

This may sound slightly insane, but I want a $400-$500 computer that will play Minecraft better than a low end Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz with Intel GMA 3100 graphics will.

The build claptonman posted is very similar to the computer I just built, and looks damn good. The only real major difference is my build uses the Gigabyte 880 due to the on board graphics, (because I did not get a dedicated GPU.

Different case too of course, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend the one I chose anyway.

If your interested, my thread is "$400 build, thoughts?"

I am looking for one with a reasonable graphics card, although any that are sort of new and not intigrated should be fine. I really do want it about $400 - $450, I specified wrongly. I am not just a guy on a budget, I am a kid and I don't even have more money than that. No, my parents will not give me stuff either, they are tightwads. (Which isn't a bad thing)

why not wait and see if you can make your christmas present a nice build with your and their money together?

They would most certainly say no. I get money for Christmas so I will get money anyway. My parents and my grandma both had to work together to buy my iPod, so they would not give me much more than the money I get anyway. (Not really poor, we just have a loan for our house that we are nicely paying off)

You said it is for Minecraft. And Minecraft uses CPU and RAM the most. If you had a good CPU and good RAM, even with integrated graphics you could run it well.

Possibly if it had much better ones than the crappy GMA 3100 in my dads. Minecraft is much more intense on graphics than you think. (In areas with loads of stuff, it lags down to 5 FPS) Minecraft does not actually use that much RAM, 300 MB at most. (If it isn't being bloated by Java stuffing it full of the garbage cache) I have some CRT monitors that I can use until I could get a better one, so monitors aren't really a problem. The real thing is, I just want the best computer I can get for that money. The OS isn't even an issue, seeing as how Linux is nice and free. The hard drive does not have to be really large either, just 250 GB - 500 GB. I have a nice external drive I can use for really big stuff.

Well, all I'm saying is, I had a crappy GeForce 210 and I was getting around 40fps. I have now got a Radeon HD 6770 and I am getting around 45fps

Yes some of them are cheap, but, U MAD BRO?
Those are all AMD Athalons that are that inexpensive, they can't even beat the cheapest Core 2 Duo in a speed test. They have loads of RAM, but pointlessly so because of the reality of the processors.

I found a great i5 Mac Mini I am going to buy. Thanks for the help though, really appreciate it.

This is completely wrong.

If he buys a computer with integrated graphics, it will not run minecraft well. He will have to put the settings down to minimum. But even then, he would probably still lag a little.

Trust me, I've been playing minecraft from the week it came out. Don't get integrated graphics and expect to play minecraft at high settings.

Bro, you're kidding me, right? You bought a mac for gaming?

*Face palm*

I knew that intigrated graphics were no good from square one when I first started playing on a GMA X3100.

Also, about the Mac. This is gunna sound insane, but my dad won't let me buy anything other than a Mac.

I am going to wait until I find the variation of the Mac Mini with a non-intigrated graphics card before I buy it, so the graphics won't be lousy.

those don't exist, there is a reason why it's so small, because they cut all the corners they could, and made it the perfect size to fit all the necessary parts and nothing else. it can have a different processor or a bigger hdd or more ram, nothing else. a real graphics card takes up space it doesn't have,it's stuck on the integrated graphicd of the sandy forever. although it will also get ivy bridge next year whick will be up to 60% better (depending on spplication) so that might do well in games, not great, but hey, my friend gets good settings on minecraft on his laptop with intel HD.

You fail. The next level Mac Mini comes with an Ati 6630M, get it right noob.

Joking, please do some research next time though, I was not joking about it having a real video card.

Still not a dedicated card. It's an AMD APU, which has more advanced graphics on the CPU. Good for light gaming and HD movies.

You could use an open source OS such as Ubuntu which would save you around $70 in not having to buy Windows, plus you can run Minecraft on Linux.
