Smartphone processor

Was checking out the Huawei Mercury which has a 1.4 GHZ processor as opposed to my Sanyo Kyocera's 600 MHZ processor. The store rep claims that a faster processor means I can download faster which I question as I thought that the downloading speed would actually depend on the network (i.e. 4G vs 3G). Another thought that crossed my mind is whether a faster processor would run down the battery quicker?

I would like to hear your comments.
 
A faster processor would not allow you to download faster. It will allow your phone run smoother and multitask better. And it might use more battery, but your actual battery life will depend on the capacity of the phone's battery.
 
I am not due for a upgrade for another year but I am excited cause by then we should see the new nvidia quad core out for phones. My 1 Ghz CPU is starting to feel dated in comparison to the dual cores.

Cricket shoots for a lower end market so I'm not expecting a quad-core phone any time soon (lucky to see the Mercury). I'm wondering if the Mercury refreshes better and freezes less? Also I'm wondering when Cricket will go to a 4G network?
 
I think that is the Qualcomm new single core CPU's and they are suppose to be pretty powerful but the question is how well they designed the OS to run on that phones hardware. Man I am with sprint and I am still waiting for 4G, I think the thing you should be asking is when is your provider giving you a phone that will have ICS.
 
What does ICS mean?

not familiar with it. Also are there batteries more powerful and easier to charge than the lithium ones?

I'm not familiar with it. Now would be a good time to do some internet research along with discussing this with a Cricket store rep.

Beginning to see live wallpaper that says "ICS ready." (completed my research - you're right about Android 4.0 - very much improved interaction).

does anyone know what android release cycle is? I am due for a upgrade in February of next year and I am trying to figure out if I will even upgrade or wait till the latest Android depending on release.
 
according to thetechcheck.com the Samsung Galaxy S3 is supposed to release in february

supposed to have the nvidia Tegra3 sock cpu but nothing is definite.

Hopefully there is some truth to this cause this would be good news for me.
