Change AMD for Intel?

Well, hello to everyone. I've been an AMD user for about 8 years. Recently, I started thinking about getting a better config for my PC, but with the "failure" of the Vulldozer series, I was asking myself: is it time to change from AMD and for the i7? I use my computer for normal actions (word, messenger, e-mails) and for gaming. At this moment my rig is: Phenom II X4 945, $GB DDR2, I don't remember exactly cause I'm not at home, but it's a biostar mobo, Radeon HD5770, Corsair 550W and I have a regular tower case. I was thinking of getting an Asus Maximus IV Extreme, an i7, HD6990, 8 or more GB RAM, and and HAF case. what do you guys think? is it worth or is it better to keep with AMD for a while.
 
I would go with a Z68 board, and if your only gonna run 1 GPU, screw getting an ROG mobo. Just get a something like a P8Z68-VPro gen 3
 
How much money do you have to spend? First, you don't need an i7 for games. Hyperthreading is pretty much useless, Go for an i5 2500k. 6990 always have issues, just look at the reviews. I would go with a 7970 or a Nvidia 580. 8GB of RAM is plenty for gaming.
 
I'm planning to make a good PC for gaming that lasts for a good while. It's not like "money is not the problem", it's more like I'm planning to spend a little now so that I don't have to spend again so soon.
Yeah, I'll only use one GPU.
I have taken a look at the Z68. It looks like a pretty good mobo.
 
If you have the money for the 2600k and want it, go ahead.

But for the video card, I really would advise against the 6990. It is basically 2 video cards in one, and they are known to have driver issues.

Look at the 7970. Fastest single card on the planet. Even beat the 6990 in a couple of tests, and uses way less power.
 
If you can wait until April 2012 the new Intel Ivy Bridge performance gain would be worth the wait. However if you must have a new CPU today the best bet would be the i72600(k) is best budget CPU at the moment.

I do like your taste in hardware.

Yes, what is your budget?
 
The guy said money was not an issue. The i7 2600k is $325, The i7 990x and i73960X, i7-975 are $1049. Those are considered cheap compared to the xeon E7 LGA 1567. Go big or stay home. There is always the i3 for those interested in that.

Don't buy an i7, go for the i5-2500K. Also, don't buy the 6990. The 7970 is way better and cheaper.
 
or soon there will be the 2550K, not sure the difference but an extra 50 must mean it's better, although it's rumored to have no igpu. and the 7970 is slower than the 6990 by a good bit, not too much but enough, but it's better at everything else like power and i think professional tasks, and it's only 1 core vs. the 6990's 2 6970 cores.
 
I dont consider a 2500/2600K as a big budget. If a budget is not a problem, get a 3930K or even a 3960X and a 7970. Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5 or hell even a Asus Rampage IV Formula. 8gb. of DD3 2133 and a big SSD.

i didn't read those but the thing i first saw it on said it was probably just all the left over 2500/k's with non-functioning igpus so without that there is less heat so through up the multiplier some and charge an extra couple bucks and now they have a purpose and aren't just wasted.
 
What are you all taking about? The i5 2550k will have the HD 3000. Its just Intels way of getting some people to pay 50 more and not get a i5 2500k. The same reason AMD had a 955/965/970/975 and 980. The 955 would clock just as well as the 965 and the 970 would clock as good as the 975/980. Its all about a few more bucks.
 
dont listen to all the bull shit....if you want somthing thats going to bring you joy...then go with AMD,,,,since thier quad and 6 core cpu"s are under priced compared to intel....i mean if you want top notch then go with intel..after all ...there cores are faster than amd"s, but....for the price i would advise other wise since their prise may justify their performance....you can get the same out come from a amd chip...
