Additional fan/How to mount?

Hey people,
I need some help,

My GPU idle's a little too hot for my liking and just want to cool it down a little. I drew up a quick picture in MS paint of my idea and want to know how you think it'll work out. If I were to go with mounting it on the 5.25 drive bay, I think I'd just cut some hole/screw it in, and if I were to do it on the power supply I'd probably use some hot glue? Caulk? I'm really not too sure.

Configuration:

What do you guys think, and can you recommend any fans? Not only for the fan I plan on adding but replacements for the case fans?

Thanks!

Most will say that my temps aren't too high and I agree from an objective standpoint they aren't, but I just don't like them to be high at all. I idle at around 46-51 and max out at around 65 (I bump up the fan speed when gaming etc) or so. Are they hot? Not really... Are the close to seriously damaging the card? Hell no! But regardless, I don't like the idea of my card constantly being over 45 C. I also plan to run it in SLI soon, and another (overclocked) 560 right below won't help temperatures much...

that's fair. I can understand not wanting them at a certain temp. I can assure you however that you are correct that the temps are completely under control. I see a few options. the easiest choice is to just ramp up the fans to crazy levels and take them down that way. You could do a case mod to allow for side fans or another internal fan. Or you could replace the heatsink for something better. Either liquid or something like this.

EDIT: just looked and that one is not compatible with your card (facepalm) but you get the idea.

Yeah, I was considering something similar to what you linked, but you also have to take into consideration that my card IS running at temperatures that are perfectly safe, I'm mainly looking for a quick/cheap fix. The original post is what popped into my mind. Possibly when I go to add another 560 to the mix I'll consider more drastic changes. At this point though, I'm just curious as to whether the first idea I suggested is stupid or not?

Also, on the subject of fans, I plan on replacing my case fans (eventually) and just wondering what brands are reliable? And which fans can move the most air? (Assume noise is a non-issue, I always have my headphones on anyways)

Thanks for your response though, salvage-this.

Appreciate it!

Oops, thought it was about the CPU.

You could reapply the thermal paste. Most GPUs come with not-that-great of thermal paste, so putting some arctic silver 5 on there would help your temps.

I can't think of any quick fixes that will bring down the temps that would be better than what you already have. I guess the only other thing that I was thinking about would be mounting a 120 at a 45 degree angle by the bottom HDD cage. blowing up towards the GPU. I saw someone else here do it. I would not use glue or anything just find a way to affix it like twist ties or something like that.

What ever Fan you use to push air make sure you leave a reasonable gap between the fan and case as this will allow maximum air flow, when the push fans are mounted on or two close to the case it will not push air.

I'll just buy a regular old 120mm fan for like 8 bucks and temporarily attach it with some Blu-tack or just hold it there and see how it affects temps after 10 minutes. If it doesn't seem to affect temps, I'll just use it to replace the stock 120 in the back, as I was originally planning on changing them out anyways. Thanks for your help everyone!

Oh, and yeah I was thinking about adding some aftermarket thermal paste in the near future.

Thanks again!

I would make a hold on the side panel. This is what my friend is doing for his 800d. He is going to use a 230mm fan.

Could you elaborate a little on what that entails? I'm not very mechnically inclined so I wouldn't feel very comfortable with cutting anything major...
