hey guys and gales. so i have a friend that is wanting to upgrade his card. right now i have 2 x gtx 470's in sli....he has a HD4890...he said he will give his 4890, plus $110. so i figured id put my other one in my quad core computer and sell it. so, ill be needing to get a new card(s), sometime soon, or as soon as i sell the computer with the other 470 in it, which will probably be in about 2 weeks or 3 weeks tops. i nkow its not much of an upgrade, but i was thinking of getting 2 x gtx 560ti(448 versions), cause the price ill be able to get 2 at the same time(just under $600)....but im not entirley sure thats what i want to do.....i was thinking also maybe 1 580 for now....but still not sure...in april ill be selling my 1090t set up and will be more than likley go and try intel out...which shoould eliminate any possible bottleneck with my new card(s)...

id like to stay with nvidia. any suggestions would be great...thanks

I would go with a single 580. the 560-448 is a good card, but it is always better to have one strong card than 2 weaker ones.

i hear people saying that alot, but to be honost, mu sli set up has worked beatifuly since day 1. so well in fact that regaurdless of what card i get, its going to get sli'd with another if not now then later...so is a 580 pretty good...i mean will i be alright coming from a sli'd 470? i know my 2 cards perform better than the 580, but by how much im not sure. and i know 2 x 560ti(448 vesion) will give better performance than my 2 x 470's, not too much, but about 15-20%...and will cost about $140 more than a single 580...but also performing better than the 580....or get a 580 now, then another later...? im confused...hoefully within the next couple weeks you guys on here can help me decide....thanks for your reply.

If I were you, I would save the $140 by getting a 580, and SLI it later. That will be the strongest 2 way SLI in teh 500 series. The 580 is a very strong card, I think it will max or near max any game with just 1 and 2 way SLI, you will max anything period.

so i was wrong....if i go with the 2 x 560ti-448, it will be $100 more than a 580 1.5 gig, and $40 more if i get the 3 gig version. that being said, if i were to go with the 580, should i get the 1.5 gig, or the 3 gig? the price difference is about $65.

with just one 580, do you think ill be able to keep my frame rate above 45fps...i play games like bf3 n 2, all cod's, crysis 2 with high res pack, dirt 3, homefront, all at highest settings and aa and af as high as the game allows, @1080p.

would getting the 3 gig be an advantage over the 1.5 for these types of settings? if so, how will it make a difference?...and thank you for helping me thus far...i really appreciate it...ive been looking at chart comparisons for sli'd 470 vs 1 580....seems like ill have a 8 to 15 fps difference according to the charts in most games i play, but i still need more info and opinions.

If you can I would hold out till the nVidia 7xx series. It is looking to be a decent improvement from the current generation. If not, it will at least drive the prices down for the 5xx series.

If you don't plan to use linux and you don't care too much about physx (which not many games use the gpu for), then the HD 7950 and 7970 are both mre powerful than the 580 for the same prices.

why do i want nvidia?...well, i have had many cards from both amd(ati), and nvidia. from my experience, nvidia just seems more stable, better drivers most always, it has physx(cuda) (which i use in some games, but more so for adobe)...i dont like the layout of CCC, and overall i feel the game play is smoother than my formerly owned amd(ati) cards of equal performance....im not a fanboy....nvidia just works better for ME, and why go a different route when they have what im looking for.

as for the 580 vs 2 x 560ti-448.....i think im convinced that a 580 3gig vesion now would be the best choice...if i were to get one "right now". which leads me to ask...."when is the 7series going to be out?"....

hhmmm...thats a tough one.....i guess i could always just take that 4890 that im getting as partial trade for 1 of my 470's, and stick i t in the quad core pc and sell it with that, and just run the other 470 till 7xx series comes out, then buy something from the 7 line, or get a better deal on the 580....maybe by then ill be able to just buy 2 of them at once....thanks so much guys ...especialy you wolf, for your input and advice and information....it helped me to get the 2 x 560ti out of my brain...

I would wait for kepler to be released, 28nm cards with new architecture for vastly improved performance over fermi.

Yeah I'm playing the waiting game, the 580 is a damn good card but I really want a 700 series card, not really a need just more of a want. I'll probably sell my 580 for cheap once I get one.

Make sure that when you wait, you don't keep waiting and waiting. :P

Ha ha, yeah, it sucks. I just hope that these cards aren't another Fermi, if some of the "bencmarks graphs" I've seen are true then it will be worth the wait. To the OP just wait, it doens't make any sense to buy a 580 right now, especially brand new.
