Hi I was wondering about this combo deal from new egg. Its only $356 and I was thinking about buying it for moderate gaming and general web surfing. What dou you guys think about it before I waste my money, and do you think I could play some newer games with the settings turned down? Like MW2, and other FPS. And whats a good budget GPU for it? Thanks.

you might be able to play mw3, but not BF3, and you'd also need to buy windows, which is another 100 bucks, and if you wanted to get a better graphics card later, the power supply in that case sucks.

Yea thanks, would a 500 or 600 watt power supply do ok? Yea windows 7 is expensive and Ive tried Ubuntu 11.04 and I dont much care for it.

it's not so much the wattage as the brand, there is a small group of trusted companies for power supplies, the others are known to blow more often and faster, and that can fry other parts in the process.

Ok I gottcha, thanks for the help, I gotta convince my mom to let me pull $500 out off the bank... This is gonna be a pain haha

From what I saw of that combo deal, you can actually do better hand-picking components yourself. (from Newegg)

Just for giggles, a few days ago I made up a tower-only APU build for like $315. That included a good-quality lower-wattage psu.

With that combo deal you save ~$35 on list price, but you also pay extra for crap you don't need or want and it includes a couple poor-quality parts. Cherry-picking your own is going to be better, both in quality and price.

Ok, Im just checking and deciding, it will probably me another month till I order some parts. I really need a better computer, Im using an old school computer I bought for $5 (Good deal straight from the IT guy) with a hyperthreaded 2.8ghz p4, 1.5gb ram, 2 40gig harddrives, nvidia gf6200 GPU, xp pro. I got all the parts for free the whole thing costed $5.

Sounds good. In another month, the build or equivalent build should be a little cheaper. At the very least, there's a solid chance HDDs will be slightly cheaper than they are now, and the current price of HDDs make up a huge chunk of budgets around the $300-400 range. As a matter of fact, I would maybe look into finding a cheaper second-hand HDD. That would give you a little more breathing room and/or leeway to spend more on the other parts. Going the refurbished route (say from Newegg) would be an option too.
