Cant fix file iassdo.dll.mui

I installed win7 x64 and got a blue screen while installing windows updates, I ran sfc /scannow and it said it cant fix file "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\en-US\iassdo.dll.mui" in the log file.

I tried replacing the file with the original from the win7 disc but it didnt fix the problem.

Ive also tried reinstalling win7 and running the repair option from boot but it tells me the win7 disc is the wrong version or the files arnt recognised.

I read that this file is just some kind of multi language pack, possibly related to ATI catalyst control centre which I have installed. Ive tried reinstalling the CCC but still not fixed.

What I would do is do a system restore back to before the updates and then not install and update related to language packs. Or update one by one until you find the culprit and don't install it.

I tried that but for some bizarre reason the restore was turned off, its the first time ive seen that by default. It seems that blue screen I got has corrupted other things too.

I always hide the language pack updates in windows update.


edit; I have problems where some programs dont run until ive installed them a few times, and windows sometimes open almost completely off-screen so I need to drag them back to the middle. Never had this with x86.

At around the time I got the blue screen I had just installed/installing this failed update, doesnt look important though. Its the only update thats failed.

I wouldn't even concern yourself with optional updates. Only do the important ones.

I did a fresh install of win7 x64 and ran the scan straight away before installing any updates and it gave me the same error on the same file. Really strange.
