Any decent cheap laptops that will play some games?

Some of you helped me a couple of weeks ago with purchasing a desktop "Thanks!" Since then I been playing a few game's and my son is loving it,lol, but Im not. So it's his birthday in 2 weeks and now he wants his own cpu. He will be turning 11 and he's already having some school work that needs a pc,so im not looking for a total gaming system. As of right now he really like's playing WoW and I dont know much about computers but im told that doesnt really demand a lot to run,but im guessing it won't stop there.

So I was wondering if someone could recommend a laptop,as I thought it would be easier than a desktop "maybe cheaper?" ,and he could take it if need be.
Is it possible to get something between $300-$400? Under $300 would be ideal but I bet im dreaming.

laptop -request

I want to buy dell series laptop in 14 series with graphics card, which one will be the best. kindly recomend the model number. The rate should not be morethan 42 thousand and processor i s i3 or i5

fact of it is, you will not be able to do much in that budget with a laptop. for 500 you are going to be on the low end of the performance spectrum.

If you went to a desktop, you will see slightly better performance. I would bet that you could get a 6770/GTS450 and Athlon II x2 in the 500 budget.

Low budget laptops suffer from having a lower spec graphics card which is not going to be able handle any recent games.

I have a basic acer laptop with a i3 cpu and intel hd graphics and it can run a few older games from when the xbox 360 was first released era like need for speed carbon, portal, burnout paradise.

It can also run fifa 12 on low graphic settings but i have never tried wow on it.

They're right. At the budget you're looking for, a laptop will have pretty poor gaming performance. We're basically talking flash games and regular titles from like 2004 and earlier. WOW is indeed on the lower end in terms of spec demands, and the best you could hope for is maybe low - low/medium at decent framerates. That's a guess, and a little optimistic on the halfway medium settings.

With a desktop (I know it isn't preferred but I'll touch on it anyway), your gaming options open up considerably. At $500, you can build one that will play all games, with all but maybe a handful at very high/max settings. A desktop at $300-350 would also be heads and shoulders above the laptop, being able to play any game, settings dependent on which. WOW would likely be achievable at medium/high settings.

If you want something that can game your best bet is a tablet in that price range. The Asus Transformer Prime has a Nvidia Quad Core cpu and there are a lot of games it can run. That is in your price range.

Id figured as much. Are the laptops upgradable,so you can improve little by little or are they usually just come how they are?
I guess I could look into a desk top or maybe even some used gear,I know good stuff isn't cheap, but I just can't see spending $600-$700 for him to play WoW.
Thanks for the advice.

No they are no really upgradeable the graphics processor is soldered directly onto the motherboard and can not be replaced the only parts that you can upgrade are the ram and the hard drive. the graphics card is the brick wall limiting what games a laptop is able to play.

Untrue. Some laptops, you can upgrade the video card. You can also replace the CPU and screen. Not easy, but possible.

But again, not worth it since the top-of-the-line laptop video card is a little lower than a desktop 560.

WoW is not that intensive of a game. Like Wolfe said, you can easily build a computer for around $500 and play WoW at decent settings.

Very true but i did not wish to give the op the impression that it would be a good idea to rip up a brand new laptop and void the warranty.

For the CPU and screen, yes. But if the laptop can have you replace the card, it would have a hatch just like they do for RAM and hard drive where you could replace it relatively easily without voiding the warranty.

But again, not worth it.
