Looking to update my computer.

I am looking to upgrade so I'll be able to play games Skyrim and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning.

I have a HP p6624y Specs on the box says:

AMD Athlon II 635 Quad-Core Processor
8GB DDR3 Memory
1TB Hard Drive
ATI Radeon HD 4200
Windows 7

Here is a link for more specs from hp if needed and shows a pic of the tower: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ctID=c02625685

I am a noob when it comes to hardware upgrades, I apologize in advance.. I'm sure I will need a graphics card but not sure which one (I want the games to run with ease and not put too much strain on the card but not going overboard and wasting money) and been told I would need a new power supply also possibly a 120mm intake and exhaust fans but not sure so im providing images to get y'alls opinion. Would adding a slot card fan work with the vent holes in the side of my case?

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

What is your budget for both a video card and power supply?

I'm not sure you can even add a fan to the side. Seems like it is a vent rather than a slot for a fan. You could possibly ziptie it on there, but doesn't look like you can screw it on.

i was thinking of this for the extra fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835192007&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=4003003&SID=1i9u449clopnz

I decided to buy a new case instead:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811103026

the money part... I'm not looking at that yet. I've been told Due to my cpu, memory, and motherboard... I can only run a GC like/around a geforce 550ti or a little better I hope with out wasting money.

you should be able to run a 560ti or 6950 or something in that range. Your CPU is not the best, but it is a quad core and will match mid-upper range graphics cards pretty well.

If you get a low powered card, then you will not need to add a fan. How many fans do you have on your case currently? Is there a place on the case, probably rear facing, that you could put one other than what you have already posted?

And on a side note, if you get a reference design card, its fan exhaust out the second PCI slot of the card, so you would not need a fan.

btm line...... should I try to update this computer or just build another one? How much would it be to build a new one? What would the best GC my computer can handle in y'all opinion?

If you built a new one, you could salvage some parts from the one you have. Your memory, CPU, DVD drive, and Hard drive. All you would need is the motherboard, a good cooler if you wanted to OC your cpu, a GPU and a good PSU. GPU and PSU you would need anyway, so that is good.

You can technically use a 7950/580 but that would be bottlenecking your GPU. I would say a 560ti or HD6950 would be about the best you can use without a bottleneck.

What do you mean about bottlenecking? I'm sry for not following and 2nd could you throw up some links for the 2 GPU... don't understand the # input. Im just guessing thats 2 diff cards.

I would like to personally thank you for all your information Wolf. It has been very informative. Just a last min check... I will need a 600w power supply, a new computer case w/ plenty air flow, and a 550-560ti GPU. Would any products of the 3 work or are there certifiable name brands that I should consider. What would you recommend I should get of the 3 if you was in my shoes to play both skyrim and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning.

For the power supply, you want the unit to be from corsair, antec, silverstone, seasonic, xfx, pc power and cooling, or NZXT. And if you're really strapped for cash, a OCZ or a higher-end coolermaster would be all right.

For the case, coolermaster, corsair, NZXT, Lian Li are all good ones.

Thank you... How about a GPU? I don't want to mess the main key up.

GPU brand doesn't matter, but the type (6950, 560ti, etc) is what really matters.

not necessarily, there are a few black-listed brands there, i think palit and gainwind or something like that, and there are some less desireable brands, jaton, ecs, zotac, and a few others i think, but most of them are perfectly fine, and those don't really make many at all

What would you recommend top 3 or 4 for what I need?

how much are you looking to spend on it and what is it for, i haven't read the other posts, but like he said, with gpus the model is more important than the brand.

Any card around 550-560ti and i think the other was HD6950. It will be used for gaming playing skyrim and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning mainly.
