Wireless card for my desktop?

I am looking to get a wireless adapter for my desktop that is both good, and good for my wallet. I could tell you what i'm looking to spend, but I want every ones opinion first before I give a price restriction, if I may. I had posted a thread like this awhile back and got an answer I wasn't pleased with... "There all just as good as the next." Now if that's true, then i'm sure this will be filled up with the same comments again, therefore I will just buy any of them. I plan on moving my desktop upstairs to one of the bedrooms, and the router will be downstairs. So basically, through the floor and some walls for the signal. I don't want any kind of lag due to my adapter (or as little as possible). Please help! Thanks in advance :)

P.S. I have a really nice router, so please no comments involving "Is your router good enough?". Not trying to be rude, just trying to get the answer asap so I can have it for this weekend. (Order it today hopefully)
 
I know you don't want to hear this but..... What router do you have exactly? The reason I ask is simple. You will get better signal with routers that have external antenna's compared to internal antenna's. And routers with 3 will have better signal then routers with only 2 antenna's. Same goes for the actual adapter. However, depending on individual cases, I recommend something like this so you can move it to get the best signal.

Also, about the USB wireless adapter. Now are those just as good as the one that hook directly to your motherboard? Or is there a slight disadvantage to those? Thanks in advance.

A lot of bad reviews on newegg about that router. Not saying yours is a bad one or anything, would just be leary about it.

As far as the difference goes...

The computer works just a tad harder I believe when getting internet through the usb port. But not to the point where you will notice it.
 
Are the bad reviews from wireless issues? Cause I hope I didn't spend a bunch to have a "bleh" router haha.

And thanks for the help btw. Hopefully when I purchase the adapter, my router won't end up being the problem...
 
I actually purchased it at my military exchange, so I didn't look at the reviews. I went "average consumer" for a second there and purchased due to high price.

I haven't had any issues thus far, and I've had it since December of 2010.

No DoA here. Although it could still happen. We'll see.

I purchased the USB adapter because that got better reviews and some of the opinions I agreed with. Like the fact of being able to move the adapter if there is a better signal in the room that isn't the back of my case :)
