Personally i implament safes locks plenty of security programs and am planning to make hidden doors tunnels and vaults in a house one day where i may put some computers. Im wondering if anyone else has custom security and/or network setups. or custom programs we could share to enhance security more and anonymity. Im also curious if anyone else accesses the net in a way thats practically untraceable. PM if ya want or pm an email for more anonymous communications.

You can't really "overdo" privacy, so to speak. But a good method for anonymity is using VPNs, you can find free ones (such as hotspot shield) or you can set them up your self. (I can provide you with an anonymous VPN if you wish), another security method, besides antivirus programs/firewalls is using the DeepFreeze application for your computer, it costs (legally) and works a treat.

people go way, way overboard on security and privacy.

As far as pc security goes all you really need is a good anti-virus, depending on what data you have perhaps an encryption program.

The best computer security would be to unplug from the Internet - if your really want to overdo it.
I know of an organisation where internet security is of the highest priority. They have systems with no local network access, no internet, physically destroyed USB & external SATA connections, destroyed Mobo connections, access restricted to the room with the only form of data transfer being by CD (also controlled by a device control policy) .... Oh and they still have anti-virus protection installed.

To summarise there is no such thing as too much protection, well unless you have 2 anti-virus applications installed on the same machine which will likely conflict and leave you with at best a slow machine and at worse no AV protection at all.
