I want to connect to the internet via my computer (and computer IP address) in my home, is it a VPN or Proxy or what that I need to do this?

Thanks

I have a desktop computer in the UK but I am often travelling in other countries. What I want to do is access the internet from abroad via my home computer so my IP address on any website will be shown as in the UK.

Thats a proxy. Only because i change IP to read news sometime. Visit other countries and watch news or
listen to radio and news.

Then yes, you'd be looking to set up a VPN.

This guide will help you set one up in Windows

That's only to access another site and use another access point. To use his home ISP he wants a VPN.

haha i donno what to think now. i guess maybe both can be used for it? i dont want a web proxy btw, i need my uk ip address on software as well as web browsers, can a proxy do that?

Would i be correct in saying VPN is for security only?

No. A VPN easily allows you to connect to a remote network [securely].

Follow my original post.

Ok thanks, trying to work my head around how to set one of these up now but im a little stuck, i followed this guide but when setting up the server it doesnt ask me for any password or anything like this? Is that correct? If so how do I connect, but at the same time not allow anyone else to connect? I feel like I have the wrong thing here somehow.

this is the tutorial i used

The guide you posted was on how to connect to a vpn, i need to set one up on my host computer first right? do you know any good guide for this? Or know what i am doing wrong on the one i used, its not asking me to create any password for it when i create the server.

Ok I created it and tried to connect but it gives me error 800, any ideas? I actually used different guides because im using vista for the host and connecting with win7 but i believe them to both be accurate and had a lot of rep on youtube.

For username I created a new user and password just for this, for vpn name i used the computer name of the host computer, for ip address i didnt put any port as the guide didnt say to, and i didnt do anything with the firewall as it also didnt mention so on the guides.
