Getting rid of Mandriva

Ok guys. Again, I don't ask for much help around here but I'm absolutely lost on this one.

I have a clients computer, an old dell dimension 4600 that they got from someone else. The issue was it wouldn't boot into XP. I got that fixed. But she wants the boot up options gone for mandriva and the other options listed on the boot screen. How do I get rid of this? If you need to see a pic of the boot screen, let me know and I'll post it. And afterwards, would I need to fix the boot for XP?

Just delete the Mandriva partitions and run Fixmbr from the recovery console CD. That'll replace the default XP bootloader.

Ok. There are 3 partitions besides the one for XP, they are labeled as unknown and no space used. Which I find weird. I have some more malware scans to run and then will try what you said. Any program I can use that will merge these partitions back into the XP one? Without ruining xp preferrably? lol I used to have partition magic 8 but have lost it.

I'd just delete every partition that isn't NTFS.

You COULD try that boot fixer software (that you use after you install XP after 7) but you'd need to be in Windows to do that. It's not hard to rebuild the master boot record, and that might just be the best way.

I have successfully removed the other partitions and did the fixmbr and fixboot commands and can boot into XP by default. Will look into how I can merge the free space into the XP partition, the drive is only 40 gb with XP allocated 30 and she is running out of space. Thanks Travis.

Just grab a copy of Parted Magic or GParted and extend the partition :good:

Gotcha, I'm gonna clone the drive to one of mine first just in case disaster strikes(heaven forbid).
