Question After upgrading RAM

I have upgraded my laptop ram fro 4gb(2x2gb) to 8gb(2x4gb). My laptop has only 2 slots. I'm running win 7 ult x64 sp1

Ever since i upgraded it i don't seem to notice any improvement.

Everytime i configure the maximum memory in msconfig>boot options>advanced>maximum to 8192mb , after a reboot it comes back to 0mb :(

Do i have to make any other changes in the bios or anywhere else in the system to tell the laptop that its RAM is upgraded ??

Frankly, 4gb or 8gb I'm not noticing much difference.

What exactly i have to take care of After installing the new RAM modules??

:/ right. In msconfig uncheck the box that says max memory see if that helps otherwise idk? it is meant to be noticible because you have doubled.

uncheck max memory as said.

Otherwise, you may not see a big improvement in system performance unless you were using all 4GB constantly, which you would not be doing. Gaming wise you will probably not see a performance increase. It all depends on what you are using.

Thanks for your replies. I've done as you told but i don't see any difference .

My view of improvement in performance is increase in start up speed(OS booting time), increase in file transfer speed. Like if i click open an software it should open instantly unlike my Mozilla firefox web browser which takes at least 15 to 20 secs to load all plugins and then start up.

May be there is nothing that can be done. But any more views about fully utilizing the 8gb RAM ??

I have 4 gigs on W7 64 bit.
I don't game but I have moved a ton of files around and do a lot of video conversion and I multitask a lot.
I have not used all 4 gigs of RAM yet, even though I have been close a couple of times.
I doubt in most cases that anyone would see more speed in boot up time and many other things by moving up to 8 gigs.
I did notice a huge leap when I when from 2 to 4 gigs.

you are looking at the wrong thing. RAM will not help you. The speed of your HDD will determine boot up speed and the speed that applications open.

If you want to see real gains then replace your hard disk with an SSD.

That will give you a real, noticeable change.

8GB of RAM isn't going to do much for you.

I agree with wolfeking.
Part of the problem is you are running a laptop with a 5400 rpm hdd according to your specs.
That will be a big bottle neck in boot up time.
Also I would recommend cleaning out the apps that you don't use that came preloaded with the system.
Turn off all apps that are not needed from starting at boot up.
That comp comes loaded with bloatware that drags down the true performance.

Edit: Laquer Head is right about going to a SSD for boot and overall speed.
