Oh no, another amd am3+ thread

Im thinking about getting a fx-4100.I know the fx series isnt very good, but I cant find a cpu that would match up with the fx for unsder $120.I will be upgrading by the end of this year, so if any good cpu for uder $120 comes out then, tell me.

Arguably, a phenom II will outperform a 4100. But if you get a good cooler and overclock it A LOT, then it may outperform it.

m.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103887 would out preform the fx?Now, I know the fx arent like thay sound, but really?

They are working on a patch for W7 and the FX chips.
Supposedly W8 has the fix already, I might try running a test between the 2 OS's in the near future.
I will have a FX-4100 here by the end of the week.

Im at 110 max for cpu, but found one at tigerdircet for $100.Would this be better than the fx?The am3 is getting old, which one? m.tigerdirect.com/aHR0cDovL3d3dy50aWdlcmRpcmVjdC5jb20vYXBwbGljYXRpb25zL1NlYXJjaFRvb2xzL2l0ZW0tZGV0YWlscy5hc3A/RWRwTm89NTY5MjAzMyZDYXRJZD00NDMx

Just get the FX4100, you seem dead set on it anyway even though the phenom II 965 is a few bucks more for better performance....

The win7 patch, and windows 8 fix is going to be no miracle fix. It's still gonna be crap.

I love your optimism. ;)

No I agree, but as you seem set on the FX-4100, just go for it. We've told you the Phenom is better, if you have an extra $15 to spare, it's definitely worth $15 more.

I would buy an Athlon II 455 Triple-Core before buying an FX-4100 Two module Processor. Go with the Phenom II 965 or an Athlon II 645 Quad-Core. The extra $15 is well worth it for the Phenom II 965 Quad-Core. I really like my Phenom II 945 processor.

I was reading that AMD's current plans call for the replacement of Zambezi cores and the Scorpius platform by the new Volan plaform and new Vishera cores before the end of 2012. Hopefully they have something better than Zambezi in the works.

If you live near St. Louis/Brentwood, they have a microcenter with some good deals on combos, you could swing a 2500k that way, or a 960t or if you insist on fx, the 6100 or 8120. For the os, the win7 patch was finalized a while back, both of them (amd and windows') and it did next to nothing, and the win8 does support it better, but it's still not a huge improvement, and since win8 is a lighter os and all, i think all cpus will get a slight boost when running it.

I will see what comes out, probobly not an fx, probobly not a am3, unless am3 has a few years left, which I doubt.

The new FX chips due in the Fall will be AM3+, so there's no worry about that.

I would wait. If you can overclock it to 4.5ghz+, it'd be all you need.

Top of the line for Socket AM3 was the Phenom II 980 Quad-Core. I did not think the Six-Core Thubans were better than the Phenom II Quad-Cores.

AMD is not making Socket AM3 processors anymore according to what I have heard. Good thing Socket AM3+ is backwards compatible with Socket AM3.

I am hoping AMD can produce a Quad-Core processor that is 30 percent more powerful than the Phenom II 980 and runs on less than 100 Watts of power before June 2013.

As far as Phenom II, I got go for the 960t. Not just because it has a chance to unlock to a hex core, but they do run cooler than Deneb quads but they also have a superior memory controller.

Mine runs pretty well and with the stock heatsink easily overclocks to 3.4/5, i got it up to 3.7 but it was getting too hot after i had to increase the voltage.

The 960T are ok. The first ones were better. Would unlock with a higher % rate and would clock higher. These later ones dont seem to unlock as well or overclock as well. My guess is they are getting to the bottom of the barrel.

I would get a 960T or 980 either over a FX-4100. The 4100 only has 2 modules and anything over two threads starts sharing modules. That is unless you get a really good cooler and overclock the hell out of it. But with that said you could go ahead and get a FX-6100.
