Getting the old or the new? GTX 680 vs 570

Hi, I have done A LOT of research since I've been away. Learned quite a lot. Which have given me more questions.

My old computer had a ZOTAC Geforce 570 1280MB Psychx Barracuda. I noticed that it could always handle more. The newer games, especially the PC-exclusive ones showed amazing graphics, at the highest, without lagg. Even one year after I had gotten it.

Now that the 600 series is out I keep thinking about the time I got my AMD 64. It took a year before softwares such as games started coming out that used its full 64 bit potential.

Is it the same with GPU's? Will the 600 series be a giant sleeping, only to be awakened when the new series is out?

Graphics cards are not like that. The newer cards will get better frames than the old cards. More frames is better. At a certain point, above say 60-70 FPS there is no point as you will not see a gain.

And just to point it out, games are just now taking advantage of 64 bit potential. Processors do not get better newer tech for games. The drive is for better performance for professional apps, like say photoshop or autoCAD which took advantage of 64 bit very early.

What resolution are you playing at?

A good advantage of the new cards is they all have about 2GB of vRam, which is useful at high resolutions.

yeah, at 1080p you'll start to see your 570's short comings in games like bf3 which will use all it's vram and are so detailed graphically that even the 2gb 570's can't max it.
