AMD APU's?

you probably could, but it would not perform that well. They are more meant as a all round solution. Basically to keep the space limited for entertainment PCs and the like. Not for games.

Not on high. AMD is releasing a new APU called Trinity that they claim has 50% better GPU and 25% CPU performance then Llano.

What about serving as a backup video source for if a video card fails? Would it be enough for a computer that mostly does audio based work? I just don't get where the inputs to plug your monitor would come from without the card or some special type of motherboard?

I'd wait for trinity, but since you mentioned if a vid card fails for a backup, they actually have a hybrid crossfire feature that ups performance with entry level gpus. Although for gaming a g620 and a 6670 is faster for the same price about, but cpu wise on quad threaded apps, the llano will beat the pentium.

An am3 motherboards will not work with fm1, which are the Llano apus. The FM1 motherboards have inputs for the monitor, because, of course, that's what the Llano apus were made to do, be a gpu and cpu combined. Yes, it could be a backup video, but Newegg has 3 day shipping, so couldn't you wait that long for a new gpu? a phenom x4 Would have better performance. Also, you can crossfire an APU and gpu for better performance gpu performance. Also, wait for trinity if you get one.

Where did he say he wanted one for a AM3 MB?

Yeah I just want to understand more about the chip. I don't have immediate plans of replacing the motherboard I have now, i'd probably get looking for the right ones before I bought one of those apu's. In regards to the crossfire gpu to apu thing, are you saying I could actually boost a crossfired gpu to gpu setup with the added processing power of the apu? If so that sounds pretty cool!

If i recall correctly the performance boost really isn't that good, but it is noticeable and some is better than none

No, not like that. You can pair a APU gpu with a discrete gpu in crossfire to increase gaming preformance, like crossfireing two discrete gpu's.

:confused:How not like that:confused: That's AMD's slide for it, it shows that a 6670 with a 6550D becomes a 6690D2, it's a chart giving the names, so in other words, it's exactly like that

Well, the op is fammiler with am3 boards, so he might of thought the fm1 motherboards were very simaler with the inputs.

Lol stupidest statement I've seen in a while. He didnt ask about the sockets but how they perform. Which I think has been answered, and opinionated.
sorry to quote something from the first page but this made me lol so hard.

Also, I think Llano is a solution for entertainment and real basic gaming. I saw a few benches of the 3870k and it did quite well on some games, getting around the 30-50 fps on dirt3 for example. But trinity should out perform the Llano with ease. But this is just my assumption

Are there any motherboards that can fit two llano apu's? To double the performance of gpu and cpu using integrated tech.

not that I know of, I'll have a sniff around though.
EDIT: Nope havent been ably to find anything
