Possible Build, still need some advice, $500-700

All right everyone, so I've been on a few different forums and I'm still a bit bewildered about a few things when it comes to my plans for a new rig. It'll be my first time buying and assembling all of the components separately since I usually go OEM and just put a graphics card and PSU replacement. I have all of the components in a shopping cart on Newegg and I'm just kind of curious about whether or not they will give me the most bang for my buck. There is also the matter of Intel vs. AMD, I've heard Intel has the superior average and max FPS while gaming which is what I'll be doing. I don't have too many current intentions of CrossfireX or SLI if it comes down to it in the future though I may do just that. I mainly game and it is done casually, I want to be able to run smoothly on high-ultra settings. I'll be recycling a HDD and an Optical drive from my current CPU and placing them in this rig as well. Any suggestions you guys have as far as the rig goes would be greatly appreciated. I also have a question regarding the HD Radeon 6850 Vs. HD Radeon 6870. I know there has been a lot of debate on these forums already about it but I noticed the posts were quite old and the price gap has shrunken since they were made. Thanks for your time.

Additiontal Information: I do not have a "Frys" or "Microcenter" anywhere close to me, I will be open to using newegg and Amazon, tigerdirect and I have a hateful past so I would like to avoid them if at all possible. I'm now looking to buy an Intel Board and processor, possibly an i5 2500k or i5 2400 ,not sure just yet. I do not plan on doing SLI anytime soon so a board that is cheaper and lacks SLI compatibility would be completely fine. I hope to have this build within a month or so and I know that products and pricing are subject to change greatly within that time frame. The resolution that I will probably be playing on primarily is 1366x768 but I would not mind upgrading to a 1080 resolution after upgrading my monitor and such. I appreciate all replies and feedback.

You say you may get more FPS from an intel over an AMD? You'll get much more if you go with a cheaper CPU/Motherboard (AMD) and a more expensive GPU, if you want to stick with AMD on the GPU, going with a 6950 would be good.

I'm most likely going to be using these parts in my friends build for the CPU and Motherboard:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz
ASUS M4N98TD EVO AM3 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

The cost of those two are equal to about a 2500k, allowing you to allocate about $130 more to the GPU, where you'll see the biggest increase in performance with regards to games. (Unless you're using a prehistoric CPU, which the X4 965 is not)

Allowing you to go with something like this: SAPPHIRE 11188-22-20G Radeon HD 6950 2GB

If you're going to be using it for mainly gaming, using the parts I suggested will yield much better gaming results. If you do more CPU intensive tasks such as rendering, video/photo editing etc. then go with the 2500k.

Using the above parts, the total will come to ~$695.
Have a good one

Now, if I were to use the X4 965, I would probably be over clocking it, correct? I've edited the list up and such, I'm not going too crazy about overclocking my PCU, my main objective is to just run games smoothly and with good graphical appearance while not killing my computer. I am currently using a 2.8GHz processor, 3GB of RAM and a GeForce GT 220 so pretty much anything is a substantial improvement at this point. Also, with the 912 I can run that and get rid of the extra cooling fans to help cut the cost differential since it comes with front and rear exhaust. Does anyone know the dimensions on the Sapphire 6950? I was watching the review for the 912 and I'm just curious if I'll have to remove the HDD cage and replace it with the smaller cage that was at the bottom.

A 6950 would easily fit into the case.

And you don't need to overclock it, you can if you want. If you feel later that you want to, you can.

A stock 965 with a 6950 would destroy any game at good settings.

I recommend one, yeah...The hyper 212+ you originally chose will suffice. If you're referring to the case fans, I'd see no real need to have them to begin with.

I may just be optimistic but I'm suspecting there will be some decreases in prices before I actually purchase the rig because it'll be around mid June probably, I'll be able to tweak and upgrade some components here and there. Think that's a viable statement?

The hyper 212+ you originally chose should be fine for your overclock. If you're referring to the case fans? Not a necessity but nice haha

I've now got my mind set on the intel i5 2500K and the Sapphire OC Edition HD Radeon 6950. I decided it's going to be my first rig and I want to do it right and have it last me awhile. I'll get the CoolerMaster 212+.
