ATI equivalent card?

My friend has a Dell Dimension 3000. She wants to add a graphic card so she can play Sims2. The Dell people told her the computer accepts only PCI video cards, not AGP nor PCI-express cards. The cards recommended were the GEForce FX 5600, 5500, 5700 LE. She wants to get the ATI equivalent. Does anybody know what cards that would be?

She had bought an ATI AGP card before she got the info from Dell. The person she bought it from has a lot of ATI stuff and will exchange the card.

what did she pay for that card? most likely she would be losing out on that deal. I believe that the highest PCI card that ATI makes is the Radeon 9250 128/256MB.

Our family computer has an ATI 9200SE 128MB AGP, and that runs the Sims 2 pretty well.

there wont be anything coming out for PCI that beats the 5700, not that i've heard anyway. she might as well get that and use it until she gets a new computer

I know she didn't spend a lot of money on the card (it was in the $60 range I think). Playing the Sims is her first foray into computer gaming. She's definately not a Doom or WoW type player.

Thanks for the help!

Hi.

I am also looking into upgrading my video card for the Sims 2...............

I'm curious.

If the video card doesn't work........................does anyone have instructions on how to get back to your integrated card? Would that have to be done through the bios setup using the F2 during startup?

I'm curious before I start, because if I install the card and have no screen, I don't think i would be able to see my devices in device manager on a blank screen :D

Thanks much!

The best video card I know of for the PCI bus is the x1300. I've seen one or two of those on Newegg.

And Annababe71, assuming you are the friend mentioned above, all is cool. Otherwise, please make your own thread :P

Anyway, if the card doesn't work, just remove it. Your motherboard should switch right back to onboard if there's nothing else to use.

why does she want the ati equivalent card? The best pci card out there is the 5700le.

That was true... a while ago.

Now they have many 6xxx series and x1K series out for PCI.

As TOO said, the x1300 would be the best, but is pretty expensive. The 6200 would be a good choice if your on a low budget.
