New HD wont show up in Explorer

I currently have two 160gb hard drives. I bought a 2tb hard drive and swapped it directly out with one of the 160gb hard drives. The 2tb drive is recognized in BIOS and in the Device Manager, but it is NOT noticed in Explorer, Administrative Tools/diskpart - list volume.

What am I missing here?

Thanks for helping!

I should've added this, the 2tb drive was previously an external HDD. It was working as an EHDD on a Win 7 computer(which is what Im running now).

How do I format it without being able to see it? I believe its formatted for NTFS now.

okay, if it is NTFS you should be able to see it. But in 7 click start and type PARTITION and hit enter. Do you see it there?

you may want to test the drive. If you can not see it in disk management then windows is not seeing it at all. Since you see it in the BIOS, the drive is there and all cables are attached.

Very true, lol.

I did the quick test and within a minute it said something about a read error and it wanted to go to the full test. I started that, and it was estimating about 5 hours (maybe more than you thought cuz its 2tb? idk).

I have some things to do before I start that and let it run. I will run it though and keep you updated on the results.

Thanks again

Ok, ran the test last night. No errors on main test. The quick test stopped in 8 seconds and said Read Element Failure - Code 0007.

Still stumped

Nevermind. I opened up Computer Management and it was there. I formatted the unallocated space and gave it a drive letter and bam there it is.

My only question now is that is says it has 1.81tb of free space. I have a feeling thats probably what 2tb actually is but idk...?

Yes, that's what 2TB actually is.
