Hello - I'm kind of new to here but you guys seem pretty damn clued up and helpful so I thought I'd turn to you.

Essentially I recently bought a AMD Phenom II x4 965 to replace my AMD Athlon II x2 250 and my performance seems to have decreased... Almost unplayable.

At the moment I'm playing D3 and WoW but I'm having significantly less FPS than I was before. Any idea what's up with that?

Rest of my system:

Windows 7 32 bit
Nvidia Zotac gts250
ASRock N68-S3 UCC Mobo
4GB RAM
480w PSU (I'm leaning towards THIS being the problem....)

Thanks in advance!

Whats the make and model number of the power supply? Look in device manager and see if all 4 cores is listed under processors.

You might also want to try doing a BIOS update and maybe having a look at your temperatures. Download CoreTemp and tell us what temperature the CPU is running at when its idle and also what it's running at when it's under load. Shouldn't really be above 70C at load. Are you using the stock cooler?

I checked the temp via the BIOS and it was at 35C. Yes I'm using the stock cooler. Any links for a BIOS update?

And all these issues came about when you switched out the processor? You may have to backup your data and do a fresh install of windows.

I just looked up your motherboard and unfortunately, it doesn't support that processor. So this is most likely your issue.

Worth a try reinstalling windows?
...or shall I buy a new motherboard? I know I'm asking a lot of questions but are there any you would recommend?

If it gets anywhere near 70c, DANGER for AMD chips.

Might as well try reinstalling. If not, then get a new motherboard.

Yeah, like everyone else is saying, your motherboard doesn't support above 95W TDP, the processor you bought has a TDP of 125W. I'd say return the cpu and get a lower TDP processor or get a better motherboard.
