PC Problem.

Its Sage

So I was building my PC, and today I finally got my Windows 7. I installed it, but while it was installing, there were very thin horizontal black lines going across the monitor. I figured the GPU needed drivers, so I finished installing, and installed my drivers. Now, when I boot it up, it seems fine. But, during the "Booting Windows" screen, there is a black bar going down the middle. After that, the monitor goes black, with a green tint at the bottom.

When I reboot, i have to restore to the last time it was working, but the black lines are still there. How do i fix this? It won't let me install the drivers, because I can't boot completely, and I have to go back to before I installed them.

Is it a faulty GPU? Mobo problem? Anything else?

Thanks a lot!

Some questions: What power supply are you using? Are all the motherboard chipset drivers up to date? What temps are the GPU and CPU running at? Have you tried using another monitor? Have you tried using onboard or another video card?

600w OCZ Modular Powersupply. I haven't tried installing mobo drivers yet. No idea how hot they are, they haven't been running very long, so I assume not very high. Only have this monitor, so no. And I havent tried another video card.

OK see if installing the motherboard drivers - especially the chipset drivers, helps. You could try removing and reinstaling the graphics drivers in Safe Mode too perhaps?

My guess would be bad video card. Can you try it in a different system? What card is it?

I'm installing the motherboard and chipset drivers now. Should i try the video card driver again when those are done?

And I'm using a gigabyte HD 6850

Once you've got your chipset drivers installed see if it works OK for you for a bit. If so, then leave it be, if not, reinstall the drivers. You are using the latest 12.4 drivers aren't you for your graphics card?

I installed the chipset/mobo drivers, and then the video card drivers. When booting, the screen turns black still.

Could the problem be I'm using an HDMI? I'm thinking about ordering a VGA to DVI cable (because my PC is DVI, and my monitor is VGA). Do you think this could fix it?

I do not think it would be. HDMI is DVI with audio. You can always try a VGA to DVI cable. I use one and it works okay. Worse case scenario you have a new cable and still need to RMA your card. Best case scenario, you find out its working.

Okay, I bought it off Amazon, so I'm going to get it replaced. Hopefully the new one won't be bugged.

Just out of curiosity, could a problem with the motherboard or CPU cause this?

My guess it can be bug in Windows 7 while installing or bad cable.

It might be your cable, but i notice you order new video card so we will see how it went well.
