Hi,

I have a HP DV9700 laptop Entertainment PC with Vista 32bit loaded. The system is AMD Turiun dual 64 I think.

Can I buy the Vista 32/64 bit upgrade off the Shelf, and will it reinstall the OS as 64bit?

I need 64bit to run Microsoft Mappoint.

If you have a 64 bit cpu you can install a 64 bit OS, but you have to format, and do a clean Install. Windows won't do a upgrade install from 32 bit to 64 bit.

Will the Vista upgrade 32/64, as the package says, format and reinstall Vista to a 64bit system.
Or do I need the full Vista 64 bit package OS?

Forget about vista, get windows 7 64bit. However, the laptop only supports up to 4gb of memory. There really is no reason to upgrade to a 64bit OS if its max is only 4gb of ram.

He said he needs 64 bit to run that program, plus I have noticed a pretty decent difference in my CPU when it comes to 32 bit and 64 bit so I say always go with 64 bit.

You can do a full install with upgrade Disk. If you are not sure how, just use Google. Directions are posted all over the place.
