Can't Decide

Alright a few days ago I posted about my PSU dying but I have determined that it is fine and it is actually that my Motherboard blew a capacitor. So here is the problem that I have now.

1. Get a new 1366 motherboard.

2. Get an 1155 motherboard with an 3570k

3. Use the AM3 board with my 955 till a new generation comes out.

Thoughts?

2. Get an 1155 motherboard with an 3570k

that seems to be the most optimal and more current way to upgrade your PC atm. you can wait for the new socket to come out, but the 1155 socket will probably last a while, also.

if you want something to be fixed and working NOW, i would go with the 1155 and 3570k route.

It's more cost efficient to just replace his board. He is looking at at least 320 for the 3570k and more around 220 to get a good 1366 replacement.

He fist generation i7s are still great processors and will be fine for a bit more. Heck c2q s are still doing quite well. He will be fine till the redesign of 22nm in about a year or so.

The beat option is to just replace your board. Otherwise get the 3570k. Both are great options.

I don't really like my board all that much. If I was going to get another board it would be this:

Would you take that over the 1155 setup?

I think Ivy would be the last processor that is on the 1155 socket. I think Intel will change after that. Do you know about any release dates for the next Intel socket or when Pile Driver will release?

Actually I can get them from Microcenter for 180ish each 3570k and a new Gigabyte Z77 board.

Yeah, a i7 930 to 3570k wouldnt give a difference besides bench scores. Plus, I am guessing the ivy bridge will be the last on lga1155. Get a 1366 board.

Well that is still $360 plus a cooler if you don't have the equipment to move yours over.

I would take that over a 1155. Mainly because the price is cheaper and you only need the board.
Haswell is due out in may or june of next year. It will use LGA1150. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haswell_(microarchitecture)
Pile driver is due out quarter 3.

And sorry bout taking so long to get back to you. I was waiting to get home and off my iphone.

The best option would to check your budget and buy what you can afford, go with the best specification that is in your budget

For now I am using the 955. I want to try to fix the other board. I looked around for the capacitor but I can't seem to find it. Anyone know where I can buy one or at least something that I can switch for it?

Specs off of the capacitor are

FP5K
08Ak
2 7 1
1 6

I have no idea what the numbers mean so any help is appreciated!

Didn't find anything definitive with the part#.
Don't know if Deluxe v2 would have the same or fixing bent pins w/ needle(if that's what it is).
If the capacitors are the same(I think it has more than SE) it might be for practice/doner.
Might be pricy compared to all new capacitors. Just thought I'd toss it up here.

This Ohio co can probably pinpoint the capacitors needed.

Thanks for the links. I am tempted to take the P6T and use it for scrap parts.

Ok so a bit of a bump/update.

I found a capacitor that will work but I can't get the existing one out. We heated the soldering iron to 650F and still nothing. Any ideas on what they use that would make it so difficult to remove?

I did but I still have the leads that are stuck in the motherboard. I might try to solder the new capacitor to the correct leads that are stuck in the motherboard.
