windows updated at shutdown but next time i started it did this:

it seemed to run an update before windows booted, it was very strange, it said: applying update operation registry... there was more but the rest was not visible,

after it had finished windows loaded up as usual.

is this normal for windows 7? never seen it before and seems suspicious. google seems to yield no concrete answer.

first time it's ever happened, first time it installed them itself on shutdown too, i usually install them myself

Some don't even need a reboot.
There are quite a few that partially install on shut down and finish on the reboot.
So no need to worry.
