Computer slow when multitasking with simple apps?

I need to know what to upgrade in order to multitask basic programs. I know that getting a 4core or 8 core would fix the problem, but the thing is i only have an AM2 motherboard. The cpu i currently have is the 5200+ dualcore and it should be enough to handle multiple web browsers, i am sure.

My specs currently:
X2 5200+
5GB DDR2 ram
160GB SATA hd
Recently just purchased a GT 630 a couple days ago

I really don't want to built a new computer as i think this one is good enough to handle a few web browsers opened. My problem is that my computer always lags when i have more than 2 web browsers opened, in those 3 browsers i am blogging, so it shouldnt use that much resources. When i play more than 3 videos at the same time, it lags.

For gaming, it's great. i am playing modern games fine at medium graphics, i played D3 at max graphics and it was pretty smooth, even with a browser opened.

I really don't want to built a new computer just to blog. your help is appreciated

i use ccleaner to clear my cookies in a weekly basis. I rarely defrag my drive, but i just did it again twice recently and it shows the same 15% of fragmentation. the hard drive is very old, probably around 7 yrs. Maybe it might be the hd? I am considering buying a ssd, but i'm afraid it might not be the problem.

View the report to see what files can't be defragged and let us know. It very well may be you have a failing drive on your hands. Do you know what brand it is?

If you avoid Computer being slow down when multitasking with simple applications you need to buy a new machine with high performance.
If X2 5200+ is an AMD processor that may be one of problems in your machine. Because AMD processor heats quicker than INTEL processors. So next time you buy a Computer install an INTEL processor to it. Also try to buy one of the following computer brands I have shown below.

1.Apple
2.HP
3.DELL

These branded computers are developed carefully and these branded machines have been installed with best parts. You will notice that when you use a branded machine.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Phenom-...-US-/400312030727?pt=CPUs&hash=item5d3474d607 might even be worth dropping in a cpu, but its kinda expensive, the am2 socket is limiting, i dont think you can drop am2+ chips into a am2 board but i cant recall anymore...but defragging may do you some good, i just know at some points i was noticing firefox became very grumpy with a dual core processor for some reason, i was using a 5000+ at the time, the 65W variant..

No...

My X2 Brisbane AMD processor ran 30c cooler than my i7 does. It depends on the processor, not who makes it. And X2 5200 is only a dual core processor and should not exceed more than 55c under full load with stock cooling.

Also, HP is still having problems producing poor quality electronics. A few years ago, they denied their faulty laptops and then they actually had to pull the HP touchpad from shelves because it too had alot of problems. HP has a bad rep as far as Im concerned and I certainly wouldnt recommend them to anyone their customer service isnt good either.

You know nothing about computers and are just BSing. There are some good manufacturers but none of them use the "best parts," the motherboard in any of those isn't worth 60 or 70 bucks, normally worth more like 40 or so. Plus, the guy built his own and if he was to get another he'd build it too.

Talk about 'fanboyism'. As stated above, it does not matter who makes the processor, the temperature of the CPU is dependant on the cooling, the case, if the CPU is over clocked and a whole bunch of other stuff. Saying 'AMD chips run hotter than Intel chips' for example is completely untrue.

Not even going to say anything about the brands you mentioned as it has been mentioned in posts above. In my opinion, the best PC you can get is one that you built yourself, because then you use the parts you want and build it for a specific purpose.

I support the view that the OP's problems are due to a dying hard drive, it may be the CPU but more likely a dying hard drive. The OP doesn't have a bad CPU at all.

Since it runs fine in games but drags in web browsers. You have another problem going on. Would not really call have multi web browsers open muli tasking. What kind of internet connection do you have and the speed?

/me groans at the people jumping on the spammer. "Great job guys."

Strangle does have a point, the CPU shouldn't be having a issue with the web browsers. I would wonder if their running addons, and if so, maybe restore IE to its factory state may help...
