I recently Re-formated an XP computer i have, It was installed as Windows XP Professional SP3. After the install I am unable to get any higher resolution then 640 x 480 and 4 bit color.I cannot update any drivers until i know what graphics chipset i have. I have gone into the device manager and there is no tab for display adapters, Also the Direct x diagnosis tool has no availible information for the display device. I would like to make this computer more useable and with 4bit color this is very hard. Any other info i can get will be given upon request.

do you know either the motherboard model or model of teh computer? That would tell you what graphics chip is in it most likely. If it is a dedicated graphics card, then you'll have a little harder time.

How would i find the model #? i cannot seem to find it internaly or externaly.

Its a dell. That is a start. Look on the front there should be a label. Or you can use the software that stranglehold suggested. that will tell you what you have for sure.

No labels besides the reg key. The software the sugested becomes unresponsive shortly agter booting it up, and still wont respond after 10 mins

then you have more going on than display drivers.

If it is a Dell, it has a label. It will be above the keyboard if it is a laptop, top left if it is a all in one, and near the DVD drive if it is a desktop. It will say Dell "" where "" is a model, like precision M90, or the like.

I know there is more then display drivers as an issue, but that is my formost issue at current. It is a Dell Dimension 2350 (no label... model is surronding power button. its 3 am im tired)
