How Much Would It Cost To Build A PC As Good As An Xbox 360?

I am in need of an updated computer and this time I want something gaming capable. What is the computer equivalent of an Xbox 360 or PS3? Would an Intel i5 2500K with a GeForce 550ti be good enough to handle most games with the same quality as the Xbox 360? What about an AMD Phenom II 965 with the GeForce 550ti? Would the FX4100 be better than the Phenom II? Another concern of mine is the power supply. I want something that can handle everything comfortably but I don't want to go crazy. How many watts would it take to handle the i5 2500K and 2 GeForce 550tis? I want enough power to be able to upgrade in the future. Also, I heard that the power supply should be PLUS certified? What's the deal with the PLUS and the PLUS Bronze and all of that?

Also, if it matters I am gunna want to play on my hdtv. It's a 32" lcd and I think the resolution is 1920x1080. I currently have it hooked up to my 360 with HDMI. Would it be easy to hook up the computer to the tv and use it as a monitor? Does the motherboard have to have an HDMI port or could I use the one on the GeForce 550ti? As you can see I am pretty overwhelmed with all of the options and I would appreciate any help!

Everything you listed will be way better than an Xbox 360. However you might want to bump the GPU up to a GTX670 though if you're gonna play in 1080P.

Well a Xbox 360 has a 3 core Xenon 3.2ghz, and basically a 512mb radeon x1800 500mhz modified alittle. So pretty much anything you listed is way better than a xbox 360.

Okay cool, thanks for the reply. Do you have any advice in regards to all of my other questions? I am really concerned about the PSU more than anything. Should I be looking for PLUS Bronze at least? Is it better to have 1-12v rail instead of multiple rails? Also, I don't know if GTX 670 was a typo cause it's $400 which is out of the question. If I used a regular ~20" LCD monitor would that setup perform well? How well do you think it would run BF3 on ultra settings? It looks like you have the AMD Phenom II 965 also, how are you liking it? It looks like the 4100FX specs are better, would you recommend that I get that instead of the 965? So far I'm up to $600 with:

1) AMD Phenom II 965

2) GeForce 550ti

3) 8GB RAM

4) 650 watt PLUS Bronze PSU

5) 1TB HDD

Finally, how long do you think that ^^ setup would last until it was really outdated? Thanks again.

Ok can you post a link to the power supply? Brand matters alot. Corsair, xfx, seasonic, and antec are some good ones.

Well, the cheaper the better. Realistically around $500-600. I don't expect to play Crysis on ultra, but I want to be able to handle most games and some upcoming ones without too much trouble. I read somewhere that as long as the computer you build is better than a 360 it will be enough until the next console, and that makes sense to me. I'm used to the 360 with my 1080P TV hooked up, so as long as it looks as good or better, whether it be with a ~20" monitor or my TV (would prefer my TV) then that's all I need. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like I'm gunna have to spend $1000+ to be able to play almost everything in ultra. As far as my TV, I was thinking that I could just hook it up with an hdmi and use a wireless keyboard and mouse or something. It would be nice to not have to spend the extra money on a monitor.

There is no real answer.....

First off, youll never run half the games made for 360 on equivalent pc hardware. And some ported games will require twice as much power as others.

You do not have to worrie about the computer not being able to handle the TV output whilst it is bigger they still use the same resolution as the pc monitor most of them anyway my 15" laptop screen has the same resolution as my tv so they make no difference and the performance of the computer so using your tv would be fine and should not be an issue using your tv and a wireless mouse and keyboard whilst would be tidier a lot of wireless peripherals are more costly and do not offer te same performance as wired peripherals unless you pay for like a mamba or a naga epic witch is around $130-$150 an then you need a keyboard. If you buy gaming peripherals wired ones normally come with a lot of wire I know razer products do as rather have to much than too little so it would be better in my opinion to have wire peripherals as the peform better and are often a lot cheaper
