SSD Issues

Never noticed how slow my ssd was until i ran a bench a little while ago and it said i had a bad generic ide controller and my speeds where just crap. So i went into my bios and put my ssd onto AHCI or whatever it is and it wouldn't let me boot to it any more. Does it have to be installed on AHCI to work with AHCI? and also, windows doesn't see my dvd drive which of course is a DOA i haven't RMA'd but it was recognized by the build it was in, just wouldn't read discs right normally.

guess i'll wait till i get a new hard drive, been looking through the sales and the 32gb flash drive for under 20 is tempting, but would rather spend 60 on a 500 or 80 on a 1tb if i get something, but don't wanna spend that much :( (don't want to have to re-download the games)

Try this MS fix. Or, one the same page "Let me fix it" just be sure to boot to the bios and change the sata setting after, as noted. doesn't always work but there's a good chance. After the attempt, check to see if it worked. Check that TRIM is enabled even tho TRIM can work in IDE mode.

honestly jonny, it is worth it to get a 1TB if you can. I hate mine cause it is so freaking slow, but eh, its not about speed. well let me reword that, slow as in 24 seconds from power button to password request. 7 seconds from password request till everything is up and running on teh desktop. So that is a total boot time of about 35 seconds counting my slow typing of the password.

not really bad but about the same as this thing which makes it bad, and for the flash drive i meant the 64gb for 28

might get the f3 for 90 or this more likely

doesn't work with win8 and i checked for trim when i first got this, did something in the run box or command console and it said it was enabled

manual is doable but appears it was already how it said so probs didn't work, about to reboot anyways

didn't work, and still nothing on the dvd drive although my bios see it perfectly, but might need the drivers off it to do it, will ask dad for his external dvd drive or will just copy everything on it on a different computer and email the contents to myself.

Yes you need to use AHCI ideally because then TRIM gets enabled in Windows which is a technology which keeps your SSD running nicely - without AHCI, TRIM won't work.

Also make sure you've not plugged the drive into any third party controllers on your board, such as a Marvell 6GB/s controller, you want it plugged into the 6GB/s port which your chipset controls. I had my drive plugged into the Marvell 6GB/s controller, once I plugged it into the Z68 6GB/s controller it was much quicker.

Thecommand console said trim was working and all when i ran some command when i first got it, and of course i only have sata ii but it says its on ports 1 not 0

I am not an expert, but I am 99% sure that all CMD will tell you is if it is on or off. You should be able to enable it weather it works or not.

So are you using AHCI then?

Pretty sure all the CMD can do is tell you if it's on or off - as soon as AHCI is enabled in the BIOS, TRIM should be enabled too.

Will trim repair previos damage? Cuz ive downloaded and deleted tons of games, prob 500gb or more which isnt actually that much but only had it for a few months

Don't think TRIM repairs anything, it just keeps the drive running in good order once it has been enabled.
