Clean Install Issue - Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi folks,

I'm trying to do a clean install on my computer as I forgot the password for the only account :rolleyes:

So I set it all up, put in the disc and set the DVD drive first in line for boot up.

I get the messege "press any key to boot from cd or dvd" and continue.

Then I get the "Windows Installing" bar and after that the splash screen comes up.

Here's where it got messy. After the spash screen I get a blue screen.

Now I'm stuck, can't find anyway around the blue screen and have no idea what to do. Can't even get onto the old windows anymore.

Please help!

Is it a legit disk? Will it work on other machines? (BTW you can boot into safe mode and enter the administrator user, and remove any passwords.)

Yup totally legit, I've used it before on the same machine even.

Have you tried booting into safe mode, and useing the administrator account to remove your password first before just nuking your OS? :gun: :P
 
I tried that before but had no success. Since the blue screen I tried safe mode again and now when it's mid way through loading up safe mode the computer reboots :(
 
nope, it reboots the second it hits the splash screen.

If i try a startup repair it crashes at the "Windows is loading files" screen

John? Do you know if there is any way to run a code that enables the Administrator Account in a normal windows instance? Because that way, he could get back into Windows and remove that password?

Did you get a set of recovery disks or have a recovery partition on your machine, because you could run that on a non destructive recovery to fix the errors, then use safemode to remove the password
 
A couple things.

Do you have any external devices attached to the system? If so, please unhook. Remove any printers, external drives, addon pci cards. Then try reinstalling windows.

Also check your memory. You may have a defective stick causing this issue. Download and create a memtest cd to test your ram.
 
I have no idea to be honest, I dont think i have a recovery disc. How would i know if i have a recovery partition?

by the way am i wrong or did the Safe Mode trick for getting a password not only work on XP ?

i assume a graphics card would count? if so there's an issue there =/

I need to have a graphics card in because theres something wrong with the monitor connection on the motherboard so the screen wont pick up the signal otherwise

Right, I took out one of the RAM cards just to see what would happen. Imagine my surprise when i passed the splash screen and saw the windows login background. Unfortunatly that's all I have. A blank screen with a mouse cursor in the middle and the Windows theme background. Any ideas?
 
oh ignore that, just to impatient to wait for the installation screen! So it looks like that RAM card was the issue. I'll work at this and come back if there's any trouble.

Try to unplug the HDD, then run the disk, do you still get BSoD, or can you get further? You wont be able to install the CD because there is no HDD but do you get any further, if yes, its your hdd. Plug it back in. If it doesnt and you still get Blue Screen of Death (BSod), its another part of your computer.

If it is your HDD:
You can:

# Run a destructive recovery, losing all your data, this only works if you have the CDs, or boot option to enter it

# Put the Windows 7 Ultimate Disk in, and if you can get to the first window, there should be an option called repair your computer, follow that through and run system restore, after that, you need to boot into safe mode, administrator and remove that password, thats the only way you are not going to lose your stuff.

# If not, you will need to open command prompt from the same place as system restore, and type in
Code: 
Format C:\ /q
press enter and it will wipe the hard drive. Now reboot to the CD again and try it.

If it is something else, I have no idea on that stuff
 
Writing this off my not so broken computer, thanks very much guys you two were an amazing help.

Turned out one of the RAM cards were acting up. Must have got knocked or dust in it or something. Taking that out solved the problem.
