So, getting bored with the low quality graphics of even todays games :D (waiting for Crysis 3!) I decided to play with some of the visual settings in the nvidia display driver.

I actually did this to try and make Madden 2004 look better. I havent played this game since, well 2003 :p, and it came bundled with my FX5200 I bought back then but I never really played it.

So, here are the settings Im using:

And here are some screenshots of Madden and STALKER Clear Sky:

Ill probably do Crysis 1 later to see how it looks. Or run the forest cry3 demo.

But anyway, Madden was running at 1600x1024 in game (800x600 I believe in the main menu)

And stalker was at 1920x1080. Both games had vsync enabled so wont go above 60fps and I noticed no drop in performance in either game.

Also, does anyone know is the settings I am using will give me the highest possible quality? They appear to. I dont know much about all the different types of AA though.

Dude, you are awesome. I just tried this for BF3. Don't really know if it helped, but it looks very good. :)

Will try on a different game later and see how it does.

you didn't know about those settings? idk what's up with my 470 but i can't even use settings like that with borderlands if i want shadows and that's at 1280x1024

The only thing I ever do with graphics drivers is install them. I used NCP one time to calibrate the colours on the M90, but other than that I have never had a reason. Resolution is easier done from windows control panel and settings in games was as deep as I have ever gone.

It might have something to do with windows 8 being your main OS. Are you using the Windows 8 driver for it? http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/46124 That might help. But at 1280x1024 you should be maxing everything. Should get high to max with everything at 1080p. It is the same card minus refinements as the 560ti-448.

going by benches it is right behind a normal 560ti but i think a normal 560ti is 1gb vs my 1280mb.

biggest diff for performance seems to be the texel rate which makes anistropic filtering worse so i should probs turn that down/off and see the difference.

havent even been playing anything lately, after format most of my saves weren't on the cloud so lost them, not sure why steam doesnt even show the option for some games so lost many hours and probs won't play those games for a year or 2.

I still do not see how. Look at it. there is a 64 core difference and they are both FERMI. So the architecture did not change. It shows looking at the 570 vs 480, minor refinements that lead to a slight edge with same cores 480 of em. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/306?vs=309

The only thing I can really see is if the 560 had more ROPs or TMUs, but it does not. Its equal. :(

the 448 is a bit of a jump ahead of the 470 but it is also overclocked a good bit so it's about right i think, seems the real difference is the 500's run cooler and on less power, the rest is fairly close other than my texel rate.
