GTX 680 v 690

Im confused about the Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 and 690.

I have seen benchmarks that show the 680 is better than the 690 (single monitor 1920x1080)

is this correct?

690 is 2 680 gpus on one card.

Logically the 690 should always be faster.

I thought the Nvidia "x90" cards had two high-midrange gpu's on them, not two "x80" gpus?

They are underclocked x80 chips. Just as the 6990 was 2x 6970 chips underclocked. the issue being of coarse that the underclocked chips will not outperform a normal SLI setup.
