Building my first Gaming PC

Good morning everyone,

I've been wanting to build a gaming PC for ages and finally got the money and motivation to do it.

Thing is, I know very little about PCs hardware. I'm new to all this stuff (as I am new to this Forum :D )
I know my basics, but I surely have no idea on how to build the actual PC, which processor is better between different i7s and the difference between multiple RAMs.

That being said, I wanted some advice not only on what to buy, but on how to actually build the whole machine later on.
This is probably the best website I got http://www.pcczone.com/computer-hardware/ (Canadian)

I'd like a very good gaming comp for around $900-1000ish. Something that I'll be able to keep for a long time with good graphics and fluidity in-game.
Something with about 8GB RAM, 1 GB graphic card, i7 processor, and then I have no idea about the rest.

If you can give me advice on which components to buy specifically and why I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for the help !

OK I will try and get a build up for you soon, but a few things.

Firstly, i7? You don't need one for gaming, i5 3570K overclocked will be fine. For gaming, the i5 and the i7 are about the same.

If you want an idea of what to go for, here are some good brands:

Case: Corsair, NZXT, Cooler Master, Antec (sometimes)
Power supply: Corsair, NZXT, Seasonic, Silverstone, XFX, PC Power and Cooling, OCZ
Optical drive: Samsung, LiteON, LG

HDD: Seagate, Samsung, Western Digital
SSD (if you want one): Samsung, Crucial, SanDisk, OCZ

Graphics (AMD): Sapphire, HIS, MSI, Gigabyte (if they make AMD cards?), XFX, ASUS
Graphics (NVIDIA): MSI, Gigabyte, EVGA, ASUS, Galaxy

Cooling: Arctic Cooling, Noctua, Cooler Master etc

Boards: Gigabyte, MSI, EVGA, ASUS (they're really the only brands I'd use, GB are great)

RAM: G.Skill, Corsair, Patriot, Mushkin, Crucial (make sure you get 1600MHz)

Think that's everything - there are probably some brands I've missed there. But yeah, those are some brands to look at.

If you're in Canada, check out Newegg.ca. Can't tell you what they're like to buy from as I'm in the UK, but Newegg are also in the States and most of our US users buy from there.

Highly appreciated !

i5 looks fine, I see no problem in saving $100.

I'm looking forward for your build, I'll start looking up those brands, mainly the components where I'll actually understand something !

Thanks again

I didn't quite get that.
If you go to CanadaDirect, .com i think it is,,and put Spirit's build in a cart, using the blue memory with 8-8-8 timings that I linked above....the cost after shipping is 947. Just what you wanted. Or the memory he linked for a little less.

Hey,
$1061 does seem a bit expensive. Dyou think you can get something around $950 without making too many sacrifices ?
Thanks again for the help.

Cheers!

OK from Canada Direct it is $986.15

If you want to buy from Newegg.ca, keep the build exactly the same, but replace the 660 Ti with this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127662, the price comes down to $989.91 then.

If you want it around $950 then get this graphics card http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102998 and the price falls to $961.91. Of course, it'd be cheaper still from Canada Direct.

Do you need a copy of Windows?

It's gonna cost a lot if you need all that stuff too. You'll have to get cheaper hardware for your PC if you want to keep it all within your budget.

also in canada try ncix- they have excellent sales sometimes-ie win 7 64bit 106.00. -they have antec 300- two cases 49.00 -just watch for sales and combo deals -and like the other people stated go with quality
